FOF #236 - Year of the Dawg - 01.31.06

Podcast
The Chinese Zodiac considers 2006 to be the year of the dog.
Insert joke here. So naturally, Miss Ronnie and Marc begged and pleaded Fausto to go to the south side and represent at the Chinese New Year Parade.

What was odd about the event was the lack of Asian people. There were high school hip-hop marching bands playing "Candy Shop," Irish and Scottish six-footers and their lesbian pals playing the bagpipes, plenty of corporate floats (Mickey D's and Radio Disney) lots of floats with politician's logos, but very VERY few Chinese or any Asian organizations, groups, or spectacles.

Being big fans of Chinese opera, we really wanted to see some outlandish stuff. Somebody said "farewell" to all the concubines, the most interesting people were the college students dressed up in costumes promoting a Chinese dance show.

On today's show Miss Ronnie generously celebrates her birthday with you the listener. Listen to this hilarious sequence of events of Miss Ronnie opening her presents and threatening Fausto with them.

BONUS: The fabulous European correspondent George Grant shares the news from Europe, and his take on why everyone is infatuated with the Ang Lee film Brokeback Mountain.

Happy Chinese New Year Everyone!
Check out these photos taken at the parade.

FOF #235 - Without You We're Nothing - 01.30.06

Podcast
Fausto opens the show today
with a letter from one our listeners. We all have a great time relating to the letter and horsing around with the content. But in the end its Miss Ronnie that sends home the message of "acceptance." In Miss Ronnie's colorful way, you can "inspect, accept or reject" and she has been doing a whole lot of accepting these days.

We share another letter from Spike, who after suffering through a difficult lesbian wedding, a burgaled apartment and a computer on the fritz while listening to the Feast of Fools, ended up contracting a venereal disease from his new boyfriend. What would you do? Listen and find out.

We cover some crazy news items including a boy who wins the right to wear a skirt to school. We discuss the way sex relaxes you. Did you know that infantalism, a fetish were adults dress like babies, is sweeping China? Kinda, sort-of. It seems the Red Chinese are sporting white diapers these days.

We read some great and funny reviews of our show from the iTunes store in different countries including Canada, The United Kingdom and Sweden. Did you know that if you switch the store on the iTunes homepage you can see what people in those countries are saying about us? By the way, the Feast of Fools is fluent in over twenty accents!

To our Australian listeners, we think you're going to have to prove Miss Ronnie wrong about your country.

Happy Chinese New Year Everyone!

A Feast of Fools a day helps you work, rest and be gay.

FOF #234 - Pretty Girls Don't Fart - 01.27.06

Podcast
Victoria Lamarr has been spending a lot of time at home lately
recovering from her surgery. Victoria lives with not just any old HIV infection but with full blown AIDS. Even for Victoria Lamarr, who is clearly the most beautiful women on the Internet, intimate relationships are not easy. But, alas, Miss Vicki does go on, with a modicum of dignity, a bit of grace, and a whole lot of humor. Who doesn't like Victoria Lamarr?

V-Marr, as we like to call her, got her start singing on a street corner in Lakeview (Boystown) in the early 90's where she was discovered by a Vietnamese (or as those in the know say "Vietnamee") rock band director and hired as a blonde man to sing cheesy romantic pop songs at Vietnamese galas and weddings. Think "When a Man Loves a Woman" and "The Rose." Folks, if Celine Dion wrote it, Victoria Lamarr sang it.

On today's show, Amanda Steinstein joins Marc and Fausto to talk to Miss Vicki about her surgery, her man woes, and other delicious goodies. Listen to V-Marr's fascinating journey through love, life, Vietnamese music and the internet.

The podcast that makes its own gravy: the Feast of Fools.

FOF #233 - Blues Singing Beauty - 01.26.06

Podcast
The gorgeous blues singing Katherine Davis
joins us today to talk about her passion for the Blues, it's healing qualities, and her love for music of all kinds.

Here in Chicago, Katherine Davis' name is synonymous with blues music. Not only is she distingusihed as a singer, but also as a oral historian who travels the world talking about her experience in growing up in the iconic Cabrini Green projects.

Cabrini Green was one of the first successful housing projects that in the late 60's began to suffer from urban decay. Many people belive that a lot this stemmed from the consequences of the assasination of Martin Luther King Jr. and the subsequent riots that followed. Cabrini Green is also know as the setting for the popular 70's television show Good Times, that portrayed a black family struggling to make it in the urban landscape.

And good times we all had! Miss Ronnie describes the first time when she heard Katherine Davis sing as "a warm hug." Listen to this wonderful 'a-capella' show where Ms. Davis sings her heart and soul out to you, the listener.

Just back from her travels in Turkey, Katherine is working on a brand new album which will be recorded live at the Old Town School of Folk Music this Sunday, January 29th at 4pm in Chicago, IL. We highly recommend you buy your tickets now online from the site here.

Special note: we consider Miss Ronnie the Ja'net DuBois of podcasting, (not the Wanda DuBois as I mistakenly said on the show). Ja'net in the 1970's portrayed the popular Wilona Woods on the tv sitcom Good Times. The last film she's done lately she plays Bernie Mac's mom in Charlies Angles: Full Throttle. Something tells me Bernie Mac had something to do with that. (we're big fans of his tv show)

Listen as Miss Ronnie details her encounter at the Victoria's Secretstore where some skinny white girl wouldn't give her the time of day.

Just give me some of that good time Feast of Fools.

FOF #232 - Blowback on Brokeback - 01.25.06

Podcast
The repugnant idea that President George W Bush might be gay
went across our minds yesterday when we saw the video where he is asked by a college student at a local university wether he had seen the much talked about gay-cowboy film "Brokeback Mountain."

The guy had a golden opportunity to say something contructive, meaningful, -anything. But instead talked about how much he liked ranching. Of what is he so damn afraid?

The public response to the groundbreaking film has been so overwhelming, there is no doubt in my mind that the movie WILL win an Oscar for best film. Besides the obvious boycotting from religious fundamentalists, I'm wondering what the full backlash against this movie will be. Are we just being paranoid here?

Join me, Fausto Fernós and my boyfriend Marc Felion as we hang with Amanda Steinstein and talk about the stammering President Bush, a follow-up on the developing Clay Aiken gay cumrag sex scandal, and why right wing zealots claim that Hollywood is trying to "Homosexualize" America.

Hitch up your wagon to the Feast of Fools.

Cocktail: Organic Cosmopolitan

The Cosmopolitan traces its roots firmly in the mid 90's in the peak of Madonna's career where she was spotted drinking one at Dale DeGroff's Rainbow Room club in New York City. It's now considered by many to be the second most recognized cocktail in the world, right after the Martini.

One of my favorite "twists" to put into a drink is to make it with the freshest, high-quality ingredients possible, one of them being organic unsweetened cranberry juice concentrate. You can find unsweetened cranberry juice syrup in most health food stores (for the life of me, I don't know why Whole Food's doesn't carry it.) Or you can buy it online here.

The tart unsweetened cranberry juice goes wonderfully with fresh-squeezed organic limes and Cointreau (a popular orange flavor liquor). Use the cleanest tasting vodka you can to allow these simple and delicious ingredients to shine through.

4 ounces of high quality Vodka
1 ounce of Cointreau
1/2 to 1 ounce of Organic Unsweetened Cranberry Juice Syrup
use more if you want a bolder ruby red color
1/2 ounce of fresh squeezed organic lime juice

Shake the ingredients longer than usual with ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Do not garnish this drink, let the bold color of the cranberry juice shine through.

I was drinking Cosmopolitans from the very beginning in 1995 at a friends memorial, a gorgeous young man by the name of Bill Gaudiani who was a personal trainer, model and graphic design student. He died from a fatal car accident on Christmas day, and every time I drink one of these I think of him. Cheers Bill.

FOF #231 - Gay Slumber Party - 01.24.06

Podcast
It's so much fun to invite your friends over
put on your prettiest, warmest, pajamas and play the game "Bananas in Pajamas." Just kidding. About the Bananas in Pajamas, that is.

On today's special Martinicast we'll be making two drinks, a good one and a horrible tasting one. My mad scientist boyfriend Marc is always trying to poison me with some horrible concoction he wont taste himself, but happily use you as a guinea pig.

Also joining us is our gal pal and local intoxicologist Ryan Slasinski to talk about the update on Clay Aikens cum rag scandal, the lesbian running of the bulls, trannie drug dealers, and the annual naked woman walk in India (also known as the lesbian Pamplona Running of the Bulls).

Join us as we put away the delicious Organic Cosmopolitans and put on homemade beauty masks.

Listening to the Feast of Fools won't make you gay, but we'll do our best to make it happen.

Jeri is a special needs person who lives on disability with her parents. She speaks to us frankly about her situation, and why she finds hope and inspiration living in rural Tennessee. FOF #229 - Gay Celebrities and their Dirty Rags - 01.20.06

Podcast
Girlfriend! Clay Aiken is in for a world of hurt.
It seems that a guy he met on the internet pulled a Linda Tripp on him, and not only taped conversations over the phone, but kept a cum rag from a late night tryst in a ziplock bag to prove that they had an affair.

For those of you who aren't "Claymates" (thats Clay Aikens official name for his fans) Clay Aiken gayed up the singing reality television show Amercian Idol several seasons ago when Neil Sedaka and Barry Manilow swooned over the teen crooner on the show.

On todays show, lots of talk about celebrities in the closet, trailer trash trannies in tiaras, burlesque, radical faeries and more with NYC finest drag queen, Miss Understood.

FOF #228 - When Pigs Glow - 01.19.06

Podcast
Lots of news about animals
on today's show. Pigs that glow, parrots that squeal, and horses that get their feelings hurt when they are told "you look gay."

Pictured on the right is probably one of the most famous video podcasters, the most beautiful woman on the internet, the lovely Victoria Lamarr. In case you're new to the FOF, Victoria Lamarr is the only podcaster and video podcaster out there living with full blown AIDS. And graciously, with humor and compassion, she shares her true-life tales of heartache and desire on her video podcast. Her pinkies are naturally crooked, when her hands are together form the letter "V."

FOF #227 - Golden Globes - 01.18.06

Podcast
Hillary Clinton's comments made on Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday
accusing the U.S. House of Representatives of being run like a plantation shocked and riled many people to think about race in ways they never had before.

As much as I agree with Ms. Clinton's comments, I feel they would have had a stronger impact six years ago when Pres. Bush was beginning to come into the scene. But better late than never, I guess.

On todays show we talk about race and ebonics (African American slang) Hillary Clinton, the Golden Globe Awards, American Idol, Celebrity Fit club, and letters from our listeners.

Also our NW correspondent Dwayne Speaks talks about his favorite band, Pistol Pete and Popgun Paul.

FOF #226 - Puertorican Rainforest Soundscape - 01.17.06

Podcast
One of the most beautiful sounds that comes out of Puerto Rico
besides the music itself, is the ambient gorgeous sounds of the tropical rainforest. Full of life, the ears explode in a majestic lush of sound that can only come from a dense canopy of thousands of lifeforms calling out to each other.

Okay, I'm waxing a bit too much poetic, but I AM from Puerto Rico. This music and these sounds and the Yunque itself (the name for the mountain/preserve) are a big part of my psyche, my personality and my idenity. So indulge me!

Listen as Marc and Fausto take you on an audio tour of El Yunque Caribbean National Forest and some lovely Puerto Rican music, old and new.

Check out these pics from our adventure in the rainforest.

FOF #225 - Thank Goddess I'm a Gay Country Boy - 01.16.06

Podcast
As a gay young man living in the Appalachian mountains
Jeff Mann was befriended and inspired by a group of lesbians to come out of the closet in a part of the world where there were few queer people to relate to.

On today's FOF we're talking about M&Ms, that's mountains and men, not candy nor rappers. Jeff Mann talks about his brand new book "Loving Mountains, Loving Men" a collection of personal stories and poems about gay life in the Appalachian mountains.

This book is pretty hot stuff in the literary world these days. Danny L. Miller, coeditor of An American Vein: Critical Readings in Appalachian Literature Says about the book, “The sheer beauty of the prose in the memoir and the language of the poetry is incredible. This is one of the great watershed books of Appalachian literature. Its contribution to the fields of Appalachian studies and gay/gender studies is significant."

Listen to this candid interview with Jeff Mann about his inital attempts to escape rural America in order to find a freer gay life, and why he chose to return to his roots as a mountain man. Please check out his website at www.english.vt.edu/~jmann

Also on todays show: fabulous gay appacian/country music. Check out The Whoreshoes
and the very first gay country album, Lavender Country which was put out by Patrick Haggerty and his friends in 1973.

When listening to a podcast becomes a religious experience.

One of our most fabulous listeners (he makes us laugh, he makes us cry) Craig Rigby from the U.K. tried to start a Feast of Fools fansite with Apple's new iWeb application, and gave up cause he lost interest.

However he did manage to send us his list "Twenty Five Reasons why People Should Worship Fausto Fernós" via email.

Let's just say I'm terribly flattered.

FOF #224 - Leslie Hall, the Glitter Goddess - 01.13.06

Podcast
The keeper of "thy gems" Leslie Hall
is without a doubt a HUGE internet phenomenon. Just about a year ago Leslie was one of our first interviews on our podcast, where she had started getting the attention she deserved for her iconic photographs of herself with her hundreds of gem sweaters.

You may have seen a gem sweater on the lady at the checkout counter, on your high school home ec. teacher or on that lady that keeps on raving about the bible. But you've never seen anybody own it and reinvent it like Leslie Hall.

This past weekend, Marc and Fausto hanged out with the Gem Sweater Diva herself as she got ready for her fabous live performance at the Beat Kitchen in Chicago, Illinois.

Did you know that Leslie's mom REALLY does make her gold pants, and pretty much anything she wears onstage. This frees up Leslie to concentrate on her music, her graphic design, the development of her website and shaking her body onstage to a seismatic intensity.

To this date Leslie is one of the most popular musicians on myspace and holds an internet following that rivals our own! (We brag, we boast.) Follow us as we talk to Leslie while she transforms from the cute college co-ed to the lighting hot rock and gem diva she was meant to be.

Heads up! If you ever go see Leslie in person, make sure you go to your local thrift store and get yourself a fab gem sweater. Remember how much you paid, because the tacky girl will ASK! Then look out, because you'll be showered with praise and perhaps even more. You'll just have to take our word for it. It's a religious experience.

Check out these HOT photos of us with Leslie Hall in Chicago.

Podcast
Our good friend Ryan
is totally bummed out because of woes of the gay nature. So he turns to Miss Ronnie Vanna for consolation and support. Does she give it to him? Oh she DOES. She serves it piping hot and nasty.

Relentless like the barracuda of podcasting that she is, on today's show we hear a heart to heart exchange of Miss Ronnie talking true about how to protect your heart and dating in the 21st century.

Lots of talk on squids, whales, boys and trucks, and Ryans endowment. He is Polish, after all.

Did you guys know that Jesus was a pothead? It's true. Not only did he walk on water, he also did hydro. After listening to this show you'll be looking at the last supper in a whole new light... it was a munchfest!

FOF #222 - We Are the MacWorld - 01.11.06

Podcast
Apple Computer
today announced tons of softwware and iTunes music store addtions that will impact shows like ours for years to come.

On today's Feast of Fools, listen and Amanda Steinstein and her friend Barko Shizzarre join Marc and Fausto to chaotically muse on the Saturday Night Live sketches added to the iTunes Music store, iLife '06, Intel inside the new iMac/MacBooks, and the future of podcasting and video on the net.

Plus, a special phone call from Mike Rocco, Alan Gentry and Bill Haddad to talk about the new Apple Computer goodies.

Pictured on the right is the strange-acting general manager of the Macintosh Business Unit, Roz Ho. All we want to know is where we can apply to get a job slurring our words as we promote computer software and dress in ill-fitting clothes. Steve Ballmer, Roz Ho... what is up with powerful rich computer companies and why can't they hire a decent spokesperson? Someone please explain that to me.

FOF #221 - Samba Bombshell - 01.10.06

Podcast
Jazz-singing siren Jen Zias
grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania with our very own Marc Felion.

Upon moving to Chicago she joined a popular band Samba Bamba formed by local comedy personality and cabaret pianist Richard Knight Jr. I first heard of them because we both used to perform at this lovely cheezy Brazilian themed restaurant in the late 90's here in Chicago, the Rhumba Restaurant.

People, we're dedicated to keeping this colorful blog coming your way! Marc and I were in a freakish car accident (our car didn't fare too well, but we're just fine, we think) and despite all the drama and waiting hours to file a police report, we managed to tape this show anyways!

Listen to our car accident story, as well as Jenn's hilarious stories of growing up with Marc in Erie, working as a children's theater singner and what motivates her to dedicate her life to performing beautiful music.

If you live in Chicago, be sure to check out Jen and her trio every Friday and Saturday night starting February 3rd at the Drake Hotel! Visit Jen Zias' website for more details.

Coming this week! Coverage of MacWorld and the keynote, and jem-sweater diva Leslie Hall bares all backstage before her show at the Beat Kitchen in Chicago, Illinois.

FOF #220 - The Search for the Straightest Man in America - 01.09.06

Podcast
What can be more gay
than a beauty pageant to find out who the straightest man in America?

It seems that former rock musician and professional wrestler, now turned Christian minister, Rev. Tom Crouse wants to "celebrate God's design" by having a pageant to find the most heterosexual man in Massachusets. Apparently, he doesnt see the contradiction here. We're in the process of contacting him to talk about his contest on the show sometime in the future.

Lots of talk about Christians, good and bad, why you need to give it up if you want to make it big in showbusiness, and lots of cheeky chat on birth control and weddings.

Props to the good people down in Cupertino, California who have been so generous to feature our podcast in the "Featured Comedy podcasts" area of the iTunes music store for over a month. Thanks for the love everyone, since we're such unabashed Apple fans here.

FOF #219 - Beat Your Thymus - 01.06.06

Podcast
Fausto asks Miss Ronnie
if tapping your thymus gland with your knuckles helps tap forth some hidden energy to wake oneself up and bring your best foot forward in the world.

Today's show begins with Marc talking about how some prankster has managed to get the new Elmo books to say "Who wants to die?" Marc of course is happy to respond.

On the caption on the right, you can see a very sexy photo of Marc that answering Elmo's question: "Who wants to die? You Elmo, YOU. And I will wear your hide for a sexy photo for all the FoF fans!"

A suprise phone call from our L.A. correspondent Robert Coddington, about the new powerband that Holly Woodlawn and Jayne County are forming with some other big stars. Some terrible news about Joe Dellasandro, and why the word "concerned" really means "too much time on their hands."

FOF #218 - Puertorican Boob Bonanza - 01.05.06

Podcast
Fausto's half-sister Yayi
was born Ada Eloisa Fernós-Figarelli. At a very young age she decided to use her childhood name and keep it as her own "Yayi." It may sound unusual, but it's quite common in Puertorico to have nicknames, so that's why my mother called me Fausto (she didn't want people to abbreviate my name) Puertoricans love short names and long sentences.

In my family alone the nicknames are: Yayi, Bea, Gigo, Yeyo, Tati, Tuto, Cuchito, Juanjo, and Titi. What were some of the nicknames I had as a kid? Faustiño, Faustito, Colorao Malo y La Rana René. None of them stuck.

About 10 years ago I had a cable acccess show where I called myself Faustina, and dressed up like Univsion's Christina Sagareli. My friends called me 'Tina, years before the whole mess of crystal meth.

With that background aside, on todays unedited podcast, you can hear a candid conversation with Yayi Fernós, my half-sister (she was from my father's first marriage) who at the age of 60 decided to get saline breast implants.

Not only is she delighted and proud to have them, Yayi also sports tattoed eyeliner, mascara, and lipliner. She thinks this type of body modification is delightful and liberating, much to the chagrin of the women in my family.

If you like our regular Miss Ronnie, on this podcast you can get an idea of where spicy latin women come from, and why they are so much fun to hang around with if you're a gay man.

So much in fact, that he predicted the King of Pop's decay of his face and carreer with puppet shows, stage performances and papers a decade ago. What inspired him to do this at a time when he was still putting out chart topping albums? It was the ground breaking book "Michael Jackson Was My Lover: The Secret Diary of Jordie Chandler" which as of this post sells for $192.00 on Amazon.com and Marsian is the proud owner of two (count them TWO) copies of the book.

Listen to Marsian, Marc and Fausto as they discuss Tom Carvel and his ice-cream cake empire, cookiepuss, fudgie the whale, and his daughter Linda Carvel.

And of course, we'll be sharing our forcasts for the hot new topics, trends, and ideas that will take the world by storm in 2006. Colors? Celebrities? Sex? It's all here.

Visit Marsian's .mac homepage here. He want's you all to know he's a "savvy puppet mogul, plushie-advocate and gutter-femme icon." In case you didn't know. Check out these fabulous photos of Marsian and his puppets.

FOF #215 - Welcome To 2006 - 01.02.06

Podcast
Welcome to 2006 bytches!
On our very first show of the New Year, Fausto and Marc share with their gal pal Miss Ronnie stories about their trip to Puerto Rico.

It just seems like every man had their eyebrows plucked. Why is this so? We have no idea. Why even Jake Gyllenhaal has his eyebrows plucked just a LITTLE bit too much.

Listen as we talk about the gay cowboy movie "Brokeback Mountain" and complain about the lack of gay content coming out of Hollywood and why we're so smitten with Jake Gyllenhaal's Gyllen-hole.

Our New Years Resolutions, shoutouts to hot men in prison, and why it's so important to save anal for something better.
