Straight Sex Hang-ups: A Theory by a Straight Guy.

In short, I think that openly/admittedly gay people are probably more in touch with their sexuality because in order to get to the point where they realize their homosexuality, they have to understand their sexuality.

Unfortunately, I think many straight people (and probably very closeted gay people) have their sexuality dictated to them by a society that has used sex as its whipping boy (yeah – all that crap about “good girls don’t have sex and boys are just animals with only crude and basic emotions – not like women”). Every major religion (read: “way to keep populations under control”) has some kind of edict about sex and it always starts with the “thou shall not…” clause.

In short, if a straight person doesn’t want to actually do much thinking, he/she can default to what ends up being having sexual hang-ups – but no one will consider it a problem because they’re just “being good and pure”. Of course, those same people ignore how sweeping sexuality under the carpet can erode at others around them – you know – the “creepy perverts who may actually want to enjoy sex”.

I theorize that the gays may feel they have already “broken a few taboos” so what’s with breaking another -- like enjoying sex. Frankly, I think that what the gays have broken, in this case, is free. Congrats, my gay friends, on figuring this out.

Of course, I could be wrong – I really have only the straight side of the story.

Hmmm… good question Fausto.

I’d say, though, in this day and age, with the contraception methods available, the reasons are probably these (in order of importance):

1. Parochialism
2. STD’s
3. Unplanned Pregnancy.

…but that’s only my opinion. What do the other listeners think?
