FOF #282 - Diva Temper Tantrum - 04.05.06

People tend to overuse the word "Diva." But sometimes, the title seems fitting. It ceertainly does in Miss Ronnie's case. She is "la bomba atomica" of podcasting. And people, stand back! Cause Ronnie is MAD for lots of reasons. If the Feast of Fools was an opera, every show with Ronnie would have an aria. Today she sings like Maria Callas.
In this show Miss Ronnie throws a huge temper tantrum because we ran out of Canfield's Diet 50/50 carbonated citrus beverage. It's like a low-calorie Squirt, and of course the name helps to add a certain "ghetto fabulousness" because you can say say "fiddy fiddy." Note: I got confused and you can't order it online anywhere except through peapod. Sorry folks!
We try and try to calm Miss Ronnie down, but nothing seems to work. Listen as we talk about new AIDS/HIV medication treatments, digital tombstones, and the loveably poisonous komodo dragon named "Faust" which recently got adobted by the local Shedd Aquarium. True story.
Biting like a posinous black tarantula- the Feast of Fools.

a interesting, helpful and insightful podcast.I can't believe how much I still like the show.
ok know for the boring self story.
I was depressed for going on 11 years. I never wanted people to know and was afraid of taking the drugs, so only my aunt (the best) know about my issues. I've been getting better slowly but surely and music and listening/seeing comedy has helped, but doing something peaceful, like painting (even if a paint by numbers) and reading have really let me stop stressing and taking shit out on myself. I do agree that depression was a way to vent my anger about my family and etc. (will tell etc, but might not want to know). it may not be the same for others, but for at me at least it was true.
unlike Mark (the one with the 1st letter) when I was ever with someone, I would inform them about me dealing with some depression and how I wouldn't like to be pitied or coddled. I have lost a boyfriend or 2 because of being a strong, but depressed chica. I have slowly but surely been getting better and its pretty good right now. I get down from time to time, but it seems the same as people around me and thats all i can really ask.
So mark's (1) letter was a very interesting and went right home to me.
You guys all keep it real and everyone who checked out the feast of fools website, are great people and are very interesting.
well, got to go to class.

what a show to bring to the heart. this weekend i think i finally ended my own depression problems. i always seemed angry about something but i couldn't exactly put a finger on it. it seemed to ease up when i came out to my mom. but this weekend topped it when i came out to my dad. it felt as though a weight was relieved off of my chest. your charisma and humor helped me through it, so i want to take this opportunity to thank you guys. thank for not ever regreting saying anything. i truly don't know what i would have done had i gone on living in hiding. my depression was truly terrible, i considered some things i will not go into detail here but if you wish to contact me i would share them. i just want people to know that i made it through and if i can you can. there is nothing wrong with you and you can make it through all! i have faith in you.
by the way...redbull rocks! i have never tried 50/50...is it good? Olive oil is a great dietary neccessity. if you are on a Mediterranean diet it is a main part of your daily life. i live in Germany right now and that is a big part of our diet. we also eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, breads, and pastas. We don't eat a lot of red meats, butters, extra sugars.
lastly, my mother is a doctor, and i have already heard about this pill. seeing as i am gay and AIDS is always on my parents mind...even though i always use protection. if you want to know about AIDS, come to me, i am an AIDS poster child. as far as i know, there is research being done in the United States but it takes a lot of money and time to do those kind of things. so i suggest to not whine about your tax dollars because those are the dollars that are going to hopefully save the human race. i am not going to say that is will or not but it is hopeful.
well later dayz...keepin it real!

OMG, I've been meaning to tell you about Forbidden Zone for ages. That was the first thing I thought of when I first heard Feast Of Fools, the little King Fausto, ruling over the sixth dimension. Did you know that movie was made by Richard Elfman, brother to the incomprarable Danny Elfman (who can be seen playing the Devil with his bad, The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, later shortened to just Oingo Boingo). Actually, you have more in common with this movie than just your name, Fausto. Turns out, Oingo Boingo used to do these elaborate stage shows when they were first starting out, and Richard wanted to capture the feeling of the shows on film. The original idea was to link a bunch of performances together by a thin plot and later became the wonderment that is Forbidden Zone, much the same way Feast of Fools went from a stage show to a podcast. The DVD has some remarkable new interviews with some of the people involved. Very cool stuff.
One note for your friend Mark, listen to Marc and Fausto, finding an outlet will help a lot. I write to deal with my shit, which makes everyone who reads my LiveJournal very scared because I come off as a manic depressive mess, LOL! But that's what I do. I can be the happy sparkling pup don when I go out and about because I lay it all down in black and white and leave it there, baby.
You all have a good day.

I am 15 minutes in to this podcast and I just have to tell Ronnie that she is hilarious. Please, don't get her 50/50. Just to entertain the greater public.
Crack is wack.

LOL,
I loved this show, temper tantrum and all!
I've never had an energy drink of any kind...and that's probably not a bad thing either. I wouldn't even want to be around me after drinking one of those.
Keep it up!

Okay, I just want you all to picture this... the office is completely quiet. There are three of us sitting in one room, all staring intently at our respective computers. All of a sudden pup don explodes with laughter for about ten minutes, tears rolling down his face, confused looks from co-workers notwithstanding.
Finally the momentary chaos subsides and all becomes quiet again.
All caused by the pseudo-orgy about halfway through the show and Miss Ronnie's utterance of...
"You fuck like a little bitch"
Thanks guys. I was worried the other people in the office would think I was sane. :P

Miss Ronnie: you really deserve the 50/50.
Fausto/Marc: please don't give Miss Ronnie the 50/50 until after the show but don't let her know you're going to give it to her. She was hilarious.
Miss Ronnie: you really deserve the 50/50. Did I tell you that you were hiliarious today?

Okay, this was a great show, and it really hit home.
Regarding Mark (depressed)
Little story here. I was in a depressed stage for about 5 years of my life. It took friends & family to help me dig out of the big hole I created for myself.
Its really a bad feeling. The meds do help but for the most part, its up to you to pick up your feet and get things started all over again.
Like the guys and Miss Ronnie said, do little things around the house. Go out to the park, ride your bike if you have one, or just go for a long walk.
I got a dog. Every day I have to walk, feed and play with her. She's a high maintance dog :) Got to love her!!
Do the simple things. Talk to people, that helps too and start hanging out and enjoy yourself. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
I've been there. Its great when you reach the light and see things in a whole new light.
Thanks!!
Good Luck!
Rickie

I can't beleive someone else knows who "Captain Caveman" is. Fausto, you never cease to amaze me. And you even said it in the voice from the cartoon. WOW!

I caught the show yesterday...ok, I catch it everyday!
I have to say that I agree with you Marc about Anne Rice's vampire novels. However, if you can suffer...and I mean suffer...through "Tales of the Body Thief", "Memnoch the Devil" and "The Vampire Armand" then comes "Merrick" which marries a member of the family from "The Witching Hour" and the Vampire's from the Chronicles which is as hot, if not slightly hotter, than "The Witching Hour". after that, it's all downhill again. Though I haven't read the last two. "Pandora" from the other vampire tales selection (The Vampire Vitorio, Pandora) is by far, one of the best of ALL of her vampire stories!
Then, let's not forget about the Erotic collection she wrote under a pen name "The Sleeping Beauty" series....hot, hot, hot...better than "The Story of O"!
I have a note for your listener Mark/c...if the meds are a bit much for him, he should consult his doctor about using homeopathic supplements such as a combination of St. John's Wort and Flax Seed Oil a trusted combination for Depression related issues and of course, counselling.
Great show as always, loving a tantruming Miss Ronnie and of course, you guys are rockin the podcast world!!!
I hope the newsletter helps get more FOF-fools headed your way!

It's very important and necessary for groups like Peta to speak up and have us reexamine from a new perspectiva of what we take for granted about how humans treat other living creatures today. I agree that animals that have not been domesticated should neither be pets or in zoos. Some cultures are mean to animals - in Puerto Rico horses are often severely mistreated by the very poor. Wild animals are constantly poached in Africa. But in America, is it productive to focus on the individual little guy who puts feeder gold fish into plastic boobs for a few hours or the bearded nun who accidentally 'cooks' the fish in her schoolroom fish tank? It's the big guys who cause the real problems on earth. Industrial and commercial entities regularly and on a large scale mistreat animals and human beings, not only in the work place, but by selling products laced with innumerable kinds of pathenogens. Housecats are now dying of diabetes and cancer caused by comercial cat food. Commercial entities have also gotten away with causing havoc with the environment by transporting certain species of plants and animals from other parts of the world to other habitats where they have no natural predators and overpower local species (e.g., the coquis from Puerto Rico taken to Hawaii and the irises from the south taken to the north). This behavior must all be considered 'cruel and unusual punishment'.
To me these are the real issues & apart from having pets. To promote their own survival, human beings have been extremely clever across time in domesticating - you could say dominating (read eating) - plants and animals. To talk about putting pets in enclosed spaces as being 'mean' to me is a non issue. Pets living in houses, stalls, cages, tanks or ponds have given people great pleasure throughout the ages and helped to promote treating others with more respect. More importantly, taking care of plants and animals promotes healing in people.

I was really happy to hear Fausto's comments about liking depression to having a cold.
It will take a lot more people to make comments like this for the 'stigma' about clinical depression to finally be dispelled.
Having clinical depression is not unlike any other medical condition, like Diabetes for example, your body can't produce the insulin required to process the food you have taken in.
With clinical depression (over simplified), your brain can't produce the hormones to fire properly to process input or handle the situations that you find yourself facing.
However, just like a stiff and sore muscle the brain needs to be worked and forced to fire the right neurons and produce the right chemicals.
It was good advice to listen to music that lifts you up. Or watch your favourite movie.
Good on you Mark for writing the letter and taking that step!
Good on your FOF for taking the time to discuss this issue and get it out there!
