FOF #294 - Misery Loves Company - 04.21.06

Kiki, the world's most miserable lesbian joins us today to talk about personal pet peeves in interpersonal relationships.
Kiki wants to know if people out there are as fed up with mass media marketing as she is, or is she all alone? Kiki is kind of shy, so she doesn't talk much. She's a woman of action and satisfaction. We chat about her love of Star Wars and what Marc considers to be lesbian sex.
We cover some crazy topics like topless stamps in Canada and why Muslims can only shit in certain positions.
Marc gives a shout out to all our French speaking listeners at the request of Yves, who we met at the NYC "meet 'n greet." Marc got a little awkward during it because Kiki and Fausto were staring at him like he was from another planet.

hey guys~
Loved the show today. Interesting topics and it definately grabbed my interest. First of all, before I talk about what my main point is, congratulations to your sister Fausto! That is a great school, I have looked into it myself.
Okay, now my point...Mass Media. It has been around since the time of Jesus. I don't know that you can avoid it, but in those times we just focused on different themes. The time of Jesus was a time of revival and spritual guidance. We are still that way with Madonna and Kaballa but we are just guided on a different path. Do I think what the media has done with the present day Madonna is correct? Or with Brittney and her son, Sean-Preston? No. I am not a supporter. You are correct you guys, we should go for more of an inner drive. We really should find more indulging our minds in the lives of celebrities. Is it right what we are doing? In my opinion, no. Mass Media was a great thing, but as they say, with all great power comes great destruction. We need to focus more on our lives, our happiness and sorrow, our hits and misses because that's all we have. We have here and now, and that's what we should focus on. End of my point.
Third, Religion..ouch..I am going to warn you, but I am sure I am not the first. That is a tough door to open and I am currently studying a lot about the Holy Grail and it is very controversial. Was Jesus just a man? At time I would like to think so, and is religion just a reason to believe in what we can not comprehend? Anyway, I am not going to open up more than that because I am not one to start a riot or anything...yet anyway =)
To finish up with my long ass comment. Okay, Star Wars was a great show but not so much anymore- once again mass media- and some of the most expensive films ever made but they are still great films. Don't get me wrong. Okay, so thanks for the great show, and I am hoping that you have a great day.
Keep it sunny!

Fausto,
Sorry to hear of your podcast disaster last night. One utility that has been very helpful to me in the past, albeit with photos, is PhotoRescue. It is optimized for working with flash cards (hopefully you haven't used the card since you lost the file), and claims to work with all file types, including non-image ones.
There is a free trial available:

Good luck!

hey guys!
I saw this and thought of you, you should check it out...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4925844.stm
it's about the domino's pizza catholic town, and this is my favorite quote from the article, "It is already an extraordinary sight, with most of the main foundations laid, including a large rectangular lake that quickly became home to a group of Florida alligators. " Oh man, that rocks...

I think the majority of people ARE getting sick of the mass media. Take for example the UK's recent winner of Celebrity Big Brother, Chantelle. She was an average Joe of the street that ended up getting one of the biggest public votes of any of the 9 big brothers before. People are tired of celebrity, and yet drawn to the magazines/reality shows that show them without makeup etc. Ok so its nice to hear what some of the divas of the day are up to, but its just a bit 'same old same old' and FOF is a nice break from the norm.
ps All you people in New York get yourself to broadway and see 'The History Boys' when it opens next week (til Oct). It was a major hit in London and my friend is in it (he plays Rudge). He met Jake Gyllenhaal the other day and now I exist in a world of resentment!

Although I agree that the majority of mass media TV and Music are pre-packaged and served to the public with a standard, I don't think of all it it's bad. There's of good stuff that just because it's available to a large audience sucks or isn‘t deep or with some valuable content. Just like not everything 'indie' or alternative is great. Some, well, does suck.

George is right on. Lots of indie stuff sucks. Although I don't like to think of myself as a big consumer of mass media but I'm always there for the midnight showing of the latest blockbuster.

Hey guys,
I am so sad, I've been without you for the past few days due to the fact that the power chord to my laptop broke. I've been going insane. I NEED my FOF! Right now I'm actually enduring the library so as to download the latest show. I think there's a crazy person next to me, he combs his hair like crazy, falls asleep, and then jerks awake to start the process over again. Weird. Keep up the good work bitches! Much Love.

Hi Guys
Just to clear up a misunderstanding. Cilla Black was the first to record Alfie.
The music was by Burt Bacharach and the lyrics by Hal David.
The people who've recorded it are:
Cilla Black (March 25, 1966)
Cher (July 1966)
Dionne Warwick (December 1966)
Burt Bacharach (October 1967)
The Delfonics (1968)
Barbra Streisand (1969)
Mina (1971)
Everything But the Girl (September 1986)
The Starlite Orchestra (1995)
Patricia Barber (2000)
Susanna Hoffs (July 16, 2002)
Sorry, just a music freak!

hey Fausto & Marc - Love the show.
I heard you talk about your flash card disaster. I'm an avid digital photo geek and have had my share of flash crises, so here's my 2-cents:
1. It's a good idea to reformat flash cards every so often. That seems to keep the media more reliable.
2. After a card gets flaky, it tends to have repeat bad behavior. So i've learned to toss them after flakiness arrives.
3. Recovery: I've had great success pulling files off corrupt flash drives using a utility that came with a Lexar media card. I've posted the link below. This software runs on Mac OS X (my fav) and PC I think (yuck). It works on any flash media drive that you can read on your Mac.

Hope this works. Thought I'd add my 2-cents since i'm a geek.
Peace.
