FOF #299 - Amanda's Big Adventure - 04.28.06

Podcast
The last three weeks have been a whirlwind
for our big, beautiful and purple pal Amanda Sylvia Steinstein. First she went to visit her family in Massachusetts, then off to New York City for our Meet N' Greet, and then she and her mom spent an entire week traveling the Caribbean in a glamorous cruise liner. Sucks to be you Amanda!

On today's show A.S.S. reminisces on walking around Puerto Rico and visiting El Yunque Tropical Rainforest (the only tropical rainforest in the US Forest Preserve.) We also talk about our Meet N' Greet in New York City and all sorts of different types of Beauty Pageants, including the Miss Klingon Empire Beauty Pageant. Do you guys think Amanda would win?

Pictured on the right is Miss Klingon Empire 2004 "Captain KheTara sutai Lorenssith," (Christine Evans-Arriaga.) We think she looks a lot like the winner of Miss Continental 2004.

COMING ON MONDAY: Feast of Fools celebrates our 300th show with an exclusive interview with writer, comedian and filmmaker Margaret Cho! The outspoken comic makes her podcasting debut with an in-depth discussion about American politics, her writing process, what she really is like when she's not onstage, and what her vagina would say if it could write it's own monolouge.

FOF #298 - The Joy of The Wet Spots - 04.27.06

Podcast
Cass King and John Woods first started dating
under the pretense of wanting to collaborate musically. The first year the couple met, they spent mostly discovering each other, you know, in BED.

These days the newly married polyamorous couple has turned their love for each other, sex and music into a superb act called The Wet Spots. Think of them as the sex-ed class you never had but should have, reincarnated as a jazzy cabaret musical show.

Check out this hilarious video of their new song "Do You Take It in the Ass?"

The Wet Spots' music seems to be a delightful fusion of "Exotica" (post-World War Two Polynesian influenced lounge music), Cabaret, rock, and lots of sexy lyrics thrown in for good measure. This polyamorous couple bring in influences of Martin Denny, Yma Summac, Esquivel and Perez Prado all into one hypnotic, entrancing, hilarious show about sex education.

Cass and John have traveled all the way from Toronto, Canada all the way to the Windy City to perform their special show "Sing Your Way to Better Sex" at the Lakeshore theater THIS weekend. Go check out their show, it looks like loads of fun. I'll be there at the second showing on Saturday night!

Listen to todays show as Marc and Fausto hang out in their swinging pad with these cool cats (Cass and John) as we talk about their show, taking it up the ass, how they met, bisexuality, polyamory, religion as a disease, and why acid and syphyllus are making a big comeback, and why embracing sexuality in all it's rich and colorful forms is so important (and fun.) Thanks to fab listeners Bradford from Durham NC and Jim Leija from Michigan for turning us on to them!

Listen to the show for details on how you can win a pair of tickets to their show this weekend!

Click here to buy your tickets to The Wetspots "Sing Your Way to Better Sex" at the Lakeshore Theater, Chicago IL this Friday and Saturday April 28 & 29. Or call (773) 472-3492.

Come take a little trip with me
and my good pal the Rev. DJ (who is neither an ordained minister nor a professional disk jockey) as we leave the house for some fun and music at the local gay watering ho' (that's gay bar in English), the Jackhammer, for the Flesh Hungry Dog Show, an evening of fabulous rock and roll bands.

Listen to us talk to Pearly Sweets, the lead singer for Baby Teeth about his music, his new albums, and why music can sometimes be a matter of life and death. FOF #296 - Cleopatra was a Hairy Beast - 04.25.06

Podcast
You always learn new things from podcasts.
On today's show, two of our favorite animal rights activits, Mike Brazel and Sebastian Zoech drive all the way to Chicago to hang out with Ronnie, Marc and Fausto to talk about their adventures on the road.

It seems that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) spends some money sending these handsome young men to small towns to help raise awareness of animal rights and vegetarianism. And considering how handsome and cute these guys are, who wouldn't want to listen?

On today's show Miss Ronnie opens up fab fan tribute packages, and reveals to us that the REAL Cleopatra was in fact a hairy ape. The "beautiful" Egyptian woman everyone thinks about was actually Queen Nefretiti, a totally different person.

Check out these lovely pics taken at Fausto and Marc's place.

FOF #295 - A Walk in the Park - 04.24.06

Podcast
On a lovely spring day like today,
V-Marr begins the show by destroying the microphone with the power of her singing voice. You gotta understand, we're all inspired into a frenzy by the Cher/Tina Turner/Kate Smith Beatles medley that's getting passed around the internet lately like the eubola virus.

Join us on a magical mystery tour of Andersonville, the neighborhood in Chicago where we all live our lives. Come tiptoe through the tulips as Fausto, Marc and V-Marr get out of the house for some fresh air, a cup of coffee and a deep discussion with Fausto's sister Talia Fernós about math, science, and the nature of the universe.

Weekend Movie: We Can Work it Out

I hope you guys have caught this lovely gem of a retro movie.

From what people are saying, it's Cher, Tina Turner and "some old lady" (otherwise known as Kate Smith) singing a horrific medley of Beatles tunes, recalling a simpler era when song licensing was cheaper and easier. Is that Earth, Wind and Fire as the marching band at the end? And Tim Conway also makes an terribly unfunny appearance, who's as hilarious as a heart attack.

Don't get me wrong, we all over here at the FOF compound love, love, love this video! We can't stop trying to imitate it. I love how Kate Smith seems so out of place, how they are all singing the same notes (these women CAN sing in harmony, so why didn't they?)

According to one Cher website, this segment was taped almost 31 years ago to this date on April 27, 1975.

FOF #294 - Misery Loves Company - 04.21.06

Podcast
Kiki, the world's most miserable lesbian
joins us today to talk about personal pet peeves in interpersonal relationships.

Kiki wants to know if people out there are as fed up with mass media marketing as she is, or is she all alone? Kiki is kind of shy, so she doesn't talk much. She's a woman of action and satisfaction. We chat about her love of Star Wars and what Marc considers to be lesbian sex.

We cover some crazy topics like topless stamps in Canada and why Muslims can only shit in certain positions.

Marc gives a shout out to all our French speaking listeners at the request of Yves, who we met at the NYC "meet 'n greet." Marc got a little awkward during it because Kiki and Fausto were staring at him like he was from another planet.

FOF #293 - Absinthe Induced Hysteria - 04.20.06

Podcast
One of our lovely listeners, Tom Armstrong
came all the way to the USA to help celebrate my birthday and brought over an AUTHENTIC bottle of Absinthe which of course we promptly consumed.

We really didn't think it would have any effect on us, but now listening back on this show, I guess it did drive us off the cliff. You'll just have to listen to me and Miss Ronnie beating a dead horse to the ground.

What I want to know is what Cher, Tina Turner, Kate Smith, TIm Conway and Earth Wind and Fire were thinking (or what were they drinking) when they decided to do a very unrehearsed Beatles medley on the 1970's Cher show? [Note: Be patient downloading this video, it's so bad it's really good.]

As if we can't say thank you enough
here we go again. Today Marc, Ronnie and myself remenisce on all the lovely colorful people we met at our fabulous Meet N' Greet last Thursday at the Starlight Bar Lounge in New York City.

Who were some of the sexiest listeners? Who were some of the strangest?

In the picture to the right, Marc found this on a train seat on his way home from Miss Continental Plus, the worlds fattest drag queen pageant. He asked an Indian guy sitting next to him "What's that?" and his reply was "I think that it is a bra for the gay."

Everyone around chuckled. Does anyone know what this is?

FOF #290 - New York is So Pretty - 04.17.06

Podcast
Today we take a few steps back in time
and give you a behind the scenes "view" of our fabulous, glamorous trip to New York City. I really should have posted this the day we recorded it, since it seems dated, but it's hilarious nonetheless.

Fausto and V-Marr begin the show improvising a terrible B-Way musical about going to New York for the Meet N' Greet. Then at the Airport, tons of commotion happens when Miss Ronnie spots a young porn star incognito and asks him if in fact he is who she thinks he is, and will he talk with us for the show. What happened? Listen and find out.

Thompson Square park
in New York City has a special holy ground for hippies and for gays. It seems that BOTH the Hare Krishna religion and Wigstock can trace their origins to the exact same spot in this location.

In the 1960's some hippies came up with a countercultural religion based on eastern hindu/buddism, and in the 1980's some drag queens came up with a performance festival who'se cultural impact on gays, drag queens, fashion and performance reach far and wide (and on this show as well.)

Listen to our first segment taping IN PERSON from New York City, with Miss Understood, John Q Sanchez, Fausto Fernós (that's me), Marc Felion, Miss Ronnie and Victoria Lamarr.

Learn about the history of gay culture in New York City and the excitment in our voices as we prepare in anticipation for our very first Meet N' Greet, blocks away from the Stonewall Inn, the birthplace of the modern gay rights movent.

Also, on Sunday April 16, will be my 34th birthday! Wish me a Happy Birthday people! On Monday we'll be posting all the fabulous photos taken from our New York City trip.

Always fresh, fruity and delicious, the Feast of Fools.

Last Saturday my good pal D.J.

GAY PODCASTING CELEBRITIES MEET WITH THEIR FANS IN NEW YORK CITY

CHICAGO, IL (March 27) – Known as the world's most downloaded gay podcast*, the Feast of Fools gives back to their legions of fans as hosts Fausto Fernós and Marc Felion bring an entourage of podcasting celebrties to take a bite out of the "Big Apple" for their second "Feast of Fools
Meet N' Greet" at the Starlight Lounge & Bar on Thursday April 13th, from 7-9pm.

Fernós says, “Our East coast fans demanded we pack our backs and come face to face with them in the Big Apple. We want to take every opportunity to get out and meet those individuals who have made Feast of Fools the success it is.” Picking New York was no coincidence since a recent Podtrac poll (an independent podcasting measurement system) rated New York having 3rd highest listening base for the show.

Guests will include several of New York’s own gay celebrities including best-selling "I am Not Myself These Days" author Josh Kilmer-Purcell, American Idol contestant Amnesia Sparkles and celebrity drag queen Miss Understood.

Also traveling from Chicago are podcasters Victoria Lamarr (the first person living with full-blown AIDS to have her own video podcast), Miss Ronnie Vanna (the tough-talking hilarious advice guru), and Amanda Steinstein (the irreverent well-known jewish podcaster.)

The Feast of Fools podcast is also Chicago's #1 comedy podcast* (gay or straight) and consistently ranks higher in the iTunes Top 100 than such notable personalities as Howard Stern and even the President of the United States. No other gay-themed podcast has more listeners. Every show is
downloaded on the range of 5000-7000 times a month, with an average weekly distribution of 30,000 downloads.

Every weekday the Feast of Fools posts a brand new show, anchored by Fernós and his life-partner Marc Felion. Along with their colorful menagerie of friends the couple discusses news, current events and dispenses advice and cocktail recipies in a hilarious unparalled manner that only the Feast of Fools delivers.

The Feast of Fools manages to attract an impressive array of eccentric celebrities like: John Waters, Kathy Griffin, Teri Garr, Bruce Vilanch and Dee Snider; along with compelling in-depth interviews with musicians, writers and artists not on the mainstream radar screen.

Fernós and Felion bring light to many serious issues not only in mainstream media, but within the gay community. Through laughter and an ever witty sense of humor they discuss current news, trends, and issues within minority culture. The Feast of Fool’s ability to connect with each and every listener has made it the success that it currently is.

In 1995 Fausto Fernós hosted the award winning Cable Access talk show "El Chow de Faustina." For nine years the Feast of Fools has continued to break ground and set records as one of the most innovative, compelling and hilarious shows onstage and online.

The Starlight bar and lounge is located in the heart of the East Village, voted by Zagas as "best gay bar in New York City", has quickly become on the premiere hotspots in New York City.

FOF #285 - Woman on a Road - 04.10.06

Podcast
Lesbian folksinger Ferron
bought her first guitar as a young woman from cutting grass for $1 an hour. She was so nervous at her first gig, she could barely stand up to play.

Through the years a lot has changed, she's gotten married, is a mom, struggled with a major record company, and has become one of the seminal figures (or should that be "ovarial" figures) in women's music.

Ferron nowdays lives on Saturna Island, a small island in British Columbia with her partner. A mini isle of lesbos, she travels all over the world sharing her passion and her voice for the icon of a traveling musician. She's just release her first album of original music in over seven years, "Turning Into Beautiful."

Today we talk with the beloved lesbian musician Ferron about women's music, why Canada is such a stomping ground for lesbian folk musicians, the heated debate over transgendered inclusivity in lesbian seperatism and why she thinks that change is happening, and why heated discussions on gender might save the GLBT community in the future.

FOF #284 - Swim or Swallow - 04.07.06

Podcast
Fish tits,
the memorable NYC drag queen Aquadesia, also known as best-selling author Josh Killmer-Purcell joins us in the house today for an irreverent debate with PETA activist Mike Brazell about vegetarianism, using animals in entertainment, pro-life and animal-rights. Josh's controversial costume has recently come into a lot of controversy because it incorporated two clear water-filled acrylic spheres holding a goldfish in each as part of his costume and as the cover of his new book "I Am Not Myself These Days."

PETA (that's People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals... shouldn't it be called PFTETA?) ain't too happy with this, and so their cute representative Mike Brazell makes an earnest plea for all future drag queens out there to NOT use animals of any kind in their costumes. We ain't kidding.

Listen to this funky conversation about why you should become a vegan or why you should enjoy having goldfish as pets. It's all over the place, and a whole lot of fun.

If you want to know more about Josh Kilmer-Purcell, check out this definitive interview we did with him this past february by clicking here.

FOF #283 - The Man Who Put the F.U. in Funny - 04.06.06

Podcast
Bruce Vilanch put the F. U. in funny for a lot of folks.
And boy does he on todays podcast! Bruce comes on the show today to talk about why he's coming to Chicago in May, why the Academy Awards blackballed Brokeback and where he keeps all his t-shirts.

Bruce started his career as a journalist in Chicago, after trying to make it as an actor. His career took off as a comedy writer when stage comedy legend Bette Midler hired him to "punch up" (write jokes) her act. He later moved to Los Angeles where he wrote for television shows like Cher's post-Sonny tv variety hour titled "Cher" (imagine that!) He also wrote a lot of material for Richard Pryor, Lily Tomlin and Joan Rivers. And of course, Bruce Vilanch is the man behind most of your favorite jokes that appear on the Oscars and the Tony award ceremonies. He makes these shows watchable. We think that next year he should hold his jokes hostage and demand that a gay man host the ceremonies. It's the least he can do after the tragdy of having "Brokeback Mountain" lose to "Crash."

He took over the part of Edna Turnblad from Harvey Fierstein in the popular Broadway hit "Hairspray" and talks about John Travolta taking on the role for the film adaptation of the brodway musical adapation of the original film. Whew.

Bruce will be in town on Memorial Day Weekend to host the International Male Leather Contest. This "leather get together" is a must for leather and fetish fanatics. It's always amazing to see a fancy hotel like the Palmer House Hilton overun with Leather men, slaves, domanitrixes, and all sorts of assorted sexual freaks from all over the world. Yes, we'll be there to cover the event again.

Buy Bruce Vilanch's 1999 definitive documentary "Get Bruce!" on DVD on Amazon.

An Independent Podcast worth every minute- the Feast of Fools

Street Voice Magazine wrote this lovely review about our podcast, and we'd like to share it with you. Thanks Street Voice!

From Street Voice Magazine APRIL 5TH 06 - IN DEFENCE OF ANIMALS ISSUE

Now, my pick-this month - for an independent podcast worth every minute of the time it takes to find it, download it and enjoy is Feast of Fools hosted by Marc Felion and Fausto Fernos, a gay couple talking it up in Chicago. One of the first of its kind, the show airs five days a week and includes a cast of zany characters that perfectly accentuate the easy banter between the dynamic-duo themselves. So far, my favorite is the clever, in-your-face diva by the name of Miss Ronnie.

Not only do they chat it up about their lives and experiences; they discuss some of the topics going on in the world from politics to wedding dresses accessorized with birds. They also give listeners a chance to hear some independent musicians and give movie reviews of the quieter gay persuasion. They have an increasingly large fan base so much so in fact that recently, HBOs Big Love series sponsored the show, for about a month. These guys are witty, intelligent and definitely worth a listen.

So, go to the website Feast Of Fools, poke around and enjoy some quality entertainment. Buy a t-shirt (though the price is a bit steep) and get to know this funny cast from the Windy City. If you're so inclined, feel free to buy Miss Ronnie an iPod (shes a working student after all). New Yorkers have a chance of meeting the cast live and in person on April 13th, 2006. [At the Starlight Bar Lounge in the Village, 7-9pm]

FOF #282 - Diva Temper Tantrum - 04.05.06

Podcast
People tend to overuse the word "Diva."
But sometimes, the title seems fitting. It ceertainly does in Miss Ronnie's case. She is "la bomba atomica" of podcasting. And people, stand back! Cause Ronnie is MAD for lots of reasons. If the Feast of Fools was an opera, every show with Ronnie would have an aria. Today she sings like Maria Callas.

In this show Miss Ronnie throws a huge temper tantrum because we ran out of Canfield's Diet 50/50 carbonated citrus beverage. It's like a low-calorie Squirt, and of course the name helps to add a certain "ghetto fabulousness" because you can say say "fiddy fiddy." Note: I got confused and you can't order it online anywhere except through peapod. Sorry folks!

We try and try to calm Miss Ronnie down, but nothing seems to work. Listen as we talk about new AIDS/HIV medication treatments, digital tombstones, and the loveably poisonous komodo dragon named "Faust" which recently got adobted by the local Shedd Aquarium. True story.

Biting like a posinous black tarantula- the Feast of Fools.

FOF #281 - Over Easy - 04.04.06

Podcast
Today Marc and Fausto do what is unheard of in the podcasting world-they leave the house!
Yes they really do. Ronnie calls us up early, well, early for us and invites us to take a trip down the street to Over Easy Restaurant for some delicious brunch. Little did she know that we were in the mood to podcast. Surprised as she was to see the recorder in our hands when we pulled up, she was a good sport about it and we had a lot of fun.

Join us in this unscripted, unedited fun as we dish out the dirt about life on the "down low." We chat about the tv show about closeted African American men that's on the BET right now and why Stella is so mad when her groove that she just got back went gay.

Miss Ronnie tells us who's been to the Dorado these days. We chat a bit about our recent adventures at Clark's on Clark and why Ronnie's apartment is like a safehouse for all the sissies that hang there.

The podcast that leaves the house-the Feast of Fools!

FOF #280 - Nine Years of Insanity - 04.03.06

Podcast
The Feast of Fools is a podcast that simply will not die.
Show after show, year after year, we've gone from being a drag show at some local gay bar, to a wacky play, a musical varitey show, and now in our latest incarnation, the worlds most downloaded gay podcast.

Just what a "gay" podcast is, I guess is a podcast made by gay people, for eveyrone to enjoy. I see us as ambassadors of taste, culture and opinion on everything that crosses our fruity minds into the hearts and souls of the good people of the world. Almost 300 shows, over 1000 people on our frappr map, over 5000 daily downloads and over 3000 subscriptions on iTunes alone.

The Feast of Fools podcast is a portrait of my friends, my family, and the world I live in. We're all part of the great big time capsule that the internet is, with all these voices buzzing around. Its humbling and exciting all at the same time.

Join us today as Marc Felion, Amanda Steinstein, and me, Fausto Fernós as we reflect on the ol' odometer turning round and round, the death of Mexican-American singer Selena, and the new BCC gay re-make of the legendary sci-fi tv show "Dr. Who" or as they call him in Puerto Rico: "Doctor Quien?" Not really.

Note! We ARE NOT planning to do a show at the Hothouse on April 14th. Pictured to the right is a poster from one of our shows done way back in 2001. Check out my Feast of Fools poster gallery of show posters (the ones I've been able to find) I've made from 1998-2005.

Art. The final frontier of the mind. These are the podcasts made by the Feast of Fools. Our mission: to discover strange new people, to savor what others dare not taste, to foolishly go where others dare not go. (cue in intro music.)

FOF Video #5 - Switch to the Feast of Fools - 04.01.06

Videocast
Today the Feast of Fools turns 9.
As we do on every April Fool's Day, we look back on our past to see how far we've come (and how far we have to go.) Here are some "switch" ads we made in the spring of 2002. The first one is of me in drag talking about my early years as a Karen Carpenter impersonator, when I was a little "thinner."

Check out these hilarious and fascinating PRE-iPod "siloutette" ads we made, inspired by Apple computer's own "switch" ads. Which many people feel that somebody at Apple's ad agency HAD to have seen these ads. Thanks again to everyone who's shared the mic with me for the last years!
