FOF #340 - Why the World Doesn't Need Superman - 06.30.06

Brandon Routh South, Ruth, Rowth, Growth- all we know is he is hot and Marc and César and I were excited to see the new "Superman Returns" movie.
WARNING! THIS PODCAST IS FULL OF SUPERMAN RETURNS SPOILERS!!!
Openly gay director Bryan Singer, well known for writing and directing the blockbuster X-Men films, decided to opt out of making the third (and what seems to be the final) X-Men movie in order to direct and write a film that DC comics hopes will re-invent and launch once again the Superman franchise.
But the world has changed A LOT since the man of steel last graced the silver screen. Maybe the world hasn't really changed all that much, but the innocence of Americans and the fowl stench of nationalism is something we're all pretty uncomfortable with these days thanks to the Bush Administration.
For one thing, in this movie the phrase "the American Way" has been taken out when referencing Superman! Why? Becasue Truth and Justice (in capital letters) are no longer synonymous with "the American Way." Now that's a shame.
The film begins with Superman being gone for four years to visit the remains of his planet Krypton. We never hear what happened over there, or why he felt compelled to pick up and leave of a sudden. So of course Lois Lane feels all hurt and abandoned along with the rest of humanity, and she writes an article titled "Why the World Doesn't Need Superman" which wins her a Pulitzer Prize (the oscars for journalism.)
We never get to hear why their world didn't need Superman, but I can certainly tell you that all sexual fantasies aside, putting your hopes and dreams into some white guy in a cape is probably not a good idea. It's better to fantasize about the superman inside you, and the truth is that at the end of the day, the only ones who can save us from our problems is ourselves. So as Ru-Paul says- "You Betta Work!"
If there is a black Jesus, why can't we have a black Superman? I think super-handsome and wholesome Brosi Kodjoe from Madea's Family Reunion would be a delicious choice.
Either way, YOU SHOULD go see "Superman Returns" because it's a fun movie to watch. Kevin Spacey and Parker Posey stole the movie, and the brief millisecond Brandon Routh's pecs are flashed on the screen will forever be imbedded in my mind.
All I want to know is why Brandon wont return our phone calls? Typical Superman.

FOF #339 - So Good For You, It Hurts - 06.29.06

We ran into Jessica Halem last Saturday at the Chicago Dyke March, just sitting pretty and lovely in her peach-colored picnic blanket basking in the fabulous lesbianess around her.
Jessica is one of the funniest people we know, who happens to be the executive director for LCCP (Lesbian Community Cancer Project) one of the worlds largest lesbian health care organization and advoacy groups. And they throw GREAT parties.
Chicago's kind of cool in that way. They hire a stand up comedian to make a lesbian health care organization hip and relevant. And boy has she done a fabulous job! Now Jessica is leaving LCCP to pursue comedy full time, so you guys will be hearing MUCH more of her in future shows.
Listen to today's show as Jessica shares the DIRT on Chicago's local political scene, why State Rep. Sara Feigenholtz should run for President, growing old gay with grace, and biological factors to fabulousness.
If you love the show, tell just ONE friend about it- together we can spread the FOF gospel of fabulousness and fun! F.O.F. stands for Fabulousness Or Fun. Don't ask us why it's a choice. It shouldn't be but it is.

FOF #338 - Proud Bytches - 06.28.06

This week has been a very good week for the Feast of Fools podcast. For us personally, it's been HELL!
Okay, here is why it's been good: Star Jones has left "the View" TV show, Michael Jackson is offically moving to Europe, and Rush Limbaugh has been caught once again with possesing illegal prescription drugs.
We also had a really REALLY good time hanging with the George Takei and his partner Brad Altman, as well as marching in the Chicago Pride Parade and seeing tons of our fans and hopefully making new ones.
Listen to todays show as Marc, César and myself reflect and reminsice about the Parade and the sexy and interesting people we met along the route! Check out the all the pride parade pics, thanks to Wendy Malley of the GabberJaw podcast for taking the photos.

FOF #337 - Big Dreams, Little Spaces - 06.27.06

Writer Toni Schlesinger was reluctant at first to write about everyday people's living spaces for the Village Voice, but the weekly column "Shelter" quickly grew into a eight year project that has now resulted in a fabulous new book "Five Flights Up."
As a performer and playwright Toni knew the power of the spoken word and interview, but what she didn't realise was the drama implicit in the struggle for finding (and keeping) a living space and a sense of home in New York City.
Our lovely friend Richard Knight Jr. took time out of his busy schedule to bring his gal pal (and former Ms. Dick O'Day) Toni Schlesinger over to talk about the book, the nature of interviewing the everyday, and why she thinks people found her weekly column so compelling and why she thinks of the island of Manhattan as a real-world "Neverland."

FOF #335 - When Farts Attack - 06.23.06

Farts aren't just for fun anymore, in fact, they can be deadly weapons. It turns out that schools of herring use fart bubbles to fight back Killer Whales when they try to eat them. Individually they don't do much, but collectively they poison the water and send a spray of bubbles that knock out Killer Whales!
You learn new things every day!
On today's show our good friend Matthew comes over to chit chat with Marc and I about race and crazy Asian internet videos. We talk about a guy in India that was born with a vestigial tail that is being worshipped as the reincarnation of their Monkey God. They touch his tail for luck! I guess its better than eating someone's body and blood.
We try to figure out the REAL reason we celebrate Gay Pride Month in June (it's not because of the Stonewall riots). Also, why do you think African American history month takes place in the cold month of February? Marc says its because the goverment fears that people revolt in summer months when things get heated up and that they fear angry African American mobs in the summertime. What's your opinion?

FOF #333 - Having a Great Gay Boss - 06.21.06

Author Kirk Snyder has dedicated years of his life to making the workplace better for gays and lesbians. Durring his research he's come across the compelling idea that business might better understand the nature of effective leadership by examining the gay expreience.
In his new book "The G Quotient" Kirk Snyder describes through anecdotes, inteviews and research how today's current workforce is the most unsatisfied in many decades, and what can business do to reconnect with their employees by hiring openly gay men (and women) into leadership positions.
While our personal expirence has been that working for gays and lesbians has pretty much been a nightmare most of the time, Kirk says part of that problem stems from those leaders not having come out of the closet and coming to terms with their sexuality.
Do you think that having a gay boss who is comfortable with who he is (or a lesbian boss with similar attributes) would be a good thing to have, or more trouble than it's worth?
Listen to todays show as we grill Kirk about his book, about the nature of greed and exploitation, and why every major company in America better start considering queer leadership if they want to survive in the 21st century.
Buy Kirk Synder's book "The G Quotient" on Amazon by clicking here, and find out if you have got what it takes to be a powerful (but kind) CEO of a socially responsible multinational corporation. If you ever find one, let us know.

FOF #332 - Cock Soup for the Soul - 06.20.06

We were just relaxing, soaking in the ol' jacuzzi when our agent and gal pal Amanda Sylvia Steinstein dropped by to deliver the bad news that she might be going to jail.
It seems that sweet little Miss S. has had a horrible traffic ticket that has somehow escalated into a misdemeanor, and she's all upset that she might have to serve time in prison in Bumkinville. Poor Amanda! Fortunately Amanda has a wonderful father who suprises us all with a phone call. Did the apple fall far from the tree? You decide.
Meanwhile, Marc is all excited about some "Cock Flavoured Soup" that he found at the local Mexican grocery store. Pictured to the right is Marc hold the soup packet close to his crotch. And in case you were wondering, there is a "Cock Soup for the Soul" book as well. You can buy in from Amazon.com by clicking here.
On today's show we also talk a lot about dealing with the law, scary Russian clowns, candy, Beyonce getting her ass whipped by PETA, and the results of eating fish n' chips for your entire life.
Thanks to Mike Hipp from Soy Candles by Phebes who sent us a huge box of crazy candles and candy! Be a pal and buy a soy candle from him.Mike has a hot twin that he does not fuck. So pity him and buy some candles.
W.W.J.G.D.? What Would Jake Gyllenhaal Do? He'd download the Feast of Fools podcast, of course. And get himself a Feast of Fools t-shirt too!

FOF #331 - Goddess Save the Internet - 06.19.06

We are all over the place on this podcast. My good pal César Torres came over to knock down a couple of Backdoor Petunias, and to dish the dirt on Madonna's Chicago performance at the United Center this past Wednesday.
Listen to todays show to hear lots of dirty dirty talk on Madge's hot show- why seeing Madonna being crucified was boring, why there was tons of odd-looking people there taking their shirts off reluctantly, and why her show was still worth every penny.
When César isn't busy training for triathalons or writing in his blog, he works with children to develop hilarious musical comedy shows for adults with the local theater company Barrel of Monkeys.
In other major news former Feast of Fools guest Jil Sobule has joined forces with her fellow singer/songwriters Kay Hanley and Michelle Lewis to form the "Broadband" a USA For Africa inspired girl-band whose purpose is to fight the evil telecommunications companies who want to gut the internet to their purposes and to keep you from listening to this podcast, and podcasts in general (as well as limiting your access to your favorite websites if they should so choose.)
You can click here to learn all about the cause of Net Neutrality and here to listen to the Broadband's only songGod Save the Internet." True words indeed!
Plus: A phone call from Marc's gal pal Cunis Diabolis, who has an awesome Flickr image/photo gallery where she doctors up vintage pics of flapper girls and burlesque beauties into sci-fi fantasy backgrounds. Pictured here on the right is one of her vintage image/collages titled "Strength at the Gate."
How do you spell hilarious? F-O-F.

FOF #330 - Can We All Just Get Along? - 06.16.06

A heated conversation builds around a fan Timmy Gilmore's letter about being hated because you look gay. I've always felt that the biggest obstacle gay people face is other gay people.
This lead us to talk about the nature of conflict and dramatization, and how it's inevitable. Whats avoidable is how we deal with conflict and how we overcome our differences.
Lots of talk about conflict in everyday life and in the political spectrum, and why Amanda Steinstein should be in the Alivn Ailey dance company. They have white people dancing with them now.
What would you do for $10,000 dollars? What's the most humiliating or unlikely behavior you will do for ten "G"s?
Marc does a lot of window shopping as he eyes the guys walking down the street. He tries to find one for Amanda but darn is she picky!
Lots of talk about circumcision. A divorced couple is arguing in court about wether to circumcise their kid or not. Why won't people just leave their dicks alone? Well, because they're fun to play with, but do we really need to take a foreskin to court?
We talk about the Michael L. Jackson trial which is getting under way and other crazy stories of people gone mad- like the man who attacked Amanda, the man who attacked a family at a shopping mall and the people that attacked Kevin Avaince and oh, Madonna shopping at H&M.
The podcast that does more "Quarter Turns" than a vending machine- the Feast of Fools!

FOF #329 - Annie and Beth's Big Aventure - 06.15.06

Around the same time that we started this podcast, former porn-star and performance artist Annie Sprinkle and her girlfriend (we mean that in the lesbian sense) sculptor Elizabeth Stephens decided to get married.
Not in the traditional sense, but in the way only two visionary artists can, by turning it into a lavish seven-year performance art piece. For the next seven years they will be having a wedding, and walking up the indian chakra energy centers by dedicating each year to a color of the rainbow and it's corresponding energy center.
You can check out their wonderful website documenting their work together at Loveartlab.org. The org stands for orgasm.
In many ways Annie and Elizabeth's marriage symbolize a fusion of old-school feminism (porn exploits women) and new-school feminism (orgasms are liberating for women).
Listen to our double date with the Sprinkles as we talk about how making art and putting themselves out there has affected them as a couple. Listen to why Annie did her public cervix announcement, why she decided to stop doing it, how did Elizabeth fall in love with Annie, and Elizabeth's fabulous bronzed porn star academic panty collection. The collection includes a ENORMOUS set of soiled underwear by Ron Jeremy forever cast in metal.
DON'T MISS THIS SHOW! If you live in the San Francisco/Bay Area, please make sure to go see Annie and Elizabeth's new show "Exposed" this weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday June 16-18 at CounterPULSE, a fabulous alternative art space started by our sexy friend the performance artist Keith Hennessy. Please go see the show and tell us what you thought!
Make sure to check out Annie and Elizabeth's show. It just may save your life. Call (415) 435-7552 to buy tickets. You won't be disappointed.

FOF #328 - An Inconvenient Podcast - 06.14.06

Don't get us wrong. We think everyone should see the new film "An Inconvenient Truth."
As much we really liked this new documentary film about his famous lecture on Global warming, we think he presented just a tip of the iceberg on the issue.
The man is a politician folks. So why didn't we hear more about how politicians and people are getting in the way of policies that help combat the destruction of the environment? Why has the U.S. abandoned the Kyoto treaty? Where are the people behind this story? We want the juicy details.
Marc, Amanda and myself are all in agreement that if you REALLY want to spread the word on global warming, a porn video would be a much better way of going about it. Think of it: "Man the CO2 levels in the atmosphere have made this day really hot, and I need to take my shirt off."
We want to know from you, our loyal listener, what to call this socially aware porn video. "An Inconvenient Juice?" How about "Silent Spring in My Pants," "A Hot Greenpeace of Ass" or "Porn Free?"
Please post on the comments page your titles.
Raising awareness one podcast at a time, but with sexy results- the Feast of Fools.

FOFA #102 - Keywords: Terrorism, Puppies - 06.13.06

Today we post a classic Feast of Fools podcast epsiode recorded almost one year ago exactly with Amanda Steinstein on June 30, 2005.
One year later, Bush is still fear-mongering, the goverment is still spying on you, and lesbian poetry is still as archaic as it always has been.
One would think the more things change the more they stay the same, however the good news is that our production values today are much much better, and Bush's approval rating was around 50%, a year later it is under 30%.

FOF #327 - Eat, Drink and Be Fabulous - 06.12.06

We had meant to grab something to eat at the ol' Nugét D'Or (Golden Nugget) and then we discovered the brand new gay gay gay hamburger joint here in our neck of woods of Chicago, Hamburger Mary's.
One of our long lost Feast of Fools pals, our favorite waitress in Andersonville Audrey Middaugh now works at Hamburger Mary's serving up delicious hamburgers with an extra side of sass. No charge of course.
Coincidentally we ran into the suprisingly cute and sexy co-owner of Hamburger Mary's Brandon Wright (Mr. Right to you) who runs and operates the joint with his identical twin brother (identical in every single way, if you know what we mean.)
Join me, your flaming blue pal named Fausto and sexy brown-eyed boyfriend named Marc as we go out of the house to grab something to eat and take you along for the ride!
Check out Hamburger Mary's website and pay them a visit for some fabulous burgers. Be sure to plan ahead, since they are PACKED.

FOF #326 - Show is Fun - 06.09.06

We really don't know how to describe this show. George Takei left us all hot and bothered, and speechless.
So today, our good friend the Rev. DJ and NYC Peter joins us to talk about all sorts of lurid, evil, nasty junk. So of course, my mother calls to tell us how much she liked the interview with George Takei, and how proud she is of all of us.
And me being the ungreatful son, I cuss her out because she can't sing "Babalu" over the phone. So sorry mom. We're so sorry.
Pictured here is the Rev. DJ dispensing wisdom and general sexyness to all these hot white clueless young men in Chicago.
The podcast that breaks all taboos, and then puts the pieces back together again with crazy glue!

FOF #325 - Proud to be Takei - 06.08.06

Proudly going where no other Star Trek actor had gone before George Takei got back into the national spotlight last year when "beamed" out of the closet as a openly gay man and spoke candidly about his 19-year relationship with his life partner Brad Altman.
On today's show we'll be talking with actor George Takei who's best known for playing the role of Mr. Sulu on the original Star Trek television seires and in six subsequent Star Trek films.
George Takei makes his podcast debut as he joins us today to talk about the 40 year anniversary of star trek, his personal experience as a gay man in hollywood, why he came out, and why Howard Stern was able to trick George into thinking he was arguing with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
If you live in Chicagoland area, be sure to come out to the Pride Parade on Sunday June 25 where George Takei and his partner Brad Altman will be the grand marshalls.
The parade starts at noon at the corner of Halsted and Belmont, be sure to check us out too. We'll give you something really special!

FOF #324 - Batty Woman - 06.07.06

For some reason, the good people at D.C. Comics are now trying to diversify the D.C. universe by having strong African-American, Hispanic and Asian characters that appeal to introverted white teen-age boys with disposable income.
What's their latest new "diverse" character? A lesbian of course! Not a truck-driving, folk-music singing lesbian, but a 5'10" big-chested, small hipped sex-bomb lesbo who of course will appeal to horned up white teen-age boys with disosable incomes. The classic Batwoman character is being re-invented as a muff-diving, carpet-cleaning bona-fide Lesbian!
On todays show we talk about Batwoman's coming out as a lesbian, which inspires Amanda Steinstein to come out as a heterosexual woman. There has been much confusion about WHO Amanda Steinstein is, so we ask EVERY single question that is on your minds to Amanda to clear the air about just who this bold, puple and passionate yenta sitting across from us really is.
And what did we find out? That she's fabulous! Lots of talk about PETA-philes and Pedophiles, the wrester Chyna's enormous endowment and toilet humor.
The Feast of Fools is breastfast cereral of podcasts- chock full of fruits and nuts, and a whole lot of flakes!

FOF #323 - All for You, Amanda - 06.06.06

It's always Armageddon on somebody's calendar somewhere. On today's ominous show (06-06-06) the devil has taken over our computer and is messing with our microphones. Can you hear the evil undertones in our recordings? It's saying "support the Feast of Fools podcast" and "get a t-shirt."
I guess that explains why were so sucessful!
Listen to our devilish podcast with Amanda Steinstein as we talk a lot about the little town of Hell in Michigan (what part of Michigan isnt hell?) and the political history of marriage.
Plus a phone call from Sean who tries to talk to some unhappy homosexuals at the happiest place on earth, and a letter from a listener.
W.W.J.G.D.? What Would Jake Gyllenhaal Do? He'd download the Feast of Fools podcast, of course.

FOF #322 - Rapadura - 06.05.06

Rapadura is a commercial brand name of organic dried sugar cane juice. It's unfiltered, raw and sweet but with bitter-like savory overtones- much like this podcast!
Rapadura is also the Portuguese name for the dried up sugar cane jucie in a brick-shape that is made for easier transort, and sometimes sold as candy. We like the name, and we like its taste. You can usually find it on your local organic grocer shelves as Sucanat.
If you've never had the pleasure of trying out some unprocessed sugar cane juice or Sucanat Sugar in your tea or lemondae, we REALLY think you are in for a world of flavor. The molasses like deliciousness is waiting for you at your local organic grocer (better yet, order it though us by clicking here!) This stuff makes Sugar in the Raw taste as artificial as Sweet N' Low. We also like saying the name: "Rapadura."
On today's show my good Mexican-American gal-pal César Torres joins me to talk about trainging for the Triathalon in the Gay Games this July, healthy eating, Pres. George Bush's inevitable demise and how sometimes the process of discovery can sometimes mean the process of destruction.

FOF #320 - Cabaret Queen of the Seas - 06.01.06

Cabaret singer Barry Rocklin lives and dies by the Feast of Fools podcast. He's downloaded our show to entertain himself while he entertains others in his cabaret act on the cruise ship where he works.
Barry has been everywhere. From Yokohama, Japan to Sczcecin, Poland, from Stockholm, Sweden to the notorious Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Barry has delighted audiences with his cheeky mix of standards and originals with a bit of a gay flair.
On today's show Barry brings over his bestest pal Patrick O'Malley to chew the fat about the entertainment business on the cruisy world of cruise ships. Patrick owns and operates a retro 1980's inspired arcade game parlor called "Starworlds" in DeKalb, Illinois.
The fascinating thing is that Patrick didn't really have a hard time coming out to his family, since his sister is a female to male transexual who looks a lot like Patrick himself! What a fabulous family to know.
