FOFA #685 – Peaches Christ Will Save You

WWPCW? What Would Peaches Christ Watch? A campy horror film with lots of gratuitous sex, violence and wild women on the verge of insanity, of course!
Brainchild of filmmaker Joshua Grannell, Peaches Christ is well known in San Francisco for the 10-year-running Midnight Mass movie events where drag queens perform tacky skits before the screening of a campy feature film.
The hilarious, insane and loosely scripted performances with outrageous costumes (check out her film-dress here) hark back to the hippie Cockette shows of the late 1960s. Peaches is our kind of gal!
Don’t let the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence inspired eye make-up fool you. Peaches Christ is dead serious about her love of film and the success of Midnight Mass is a testament to her passion for great movies and the value of a gay sensibility.
Like our friend Curtis Jensen says, Peaches is a guardian of our culture: “Peaches is presenting a forum for the screening of these films that have always had a special layer of meaning for Queer audiences. I see her as a the queer equivalent of the Cinematheque in Paris, where for years film enthusiasts could be educated about film. She is educating a new generation of queers about the rich cultural heritage of camp and cult film.”
So much in fact that in 2007, Peaches Christ celebrated the ten year anniversary of Midnight Mass with guest appearances by John Waters, Elvira, and Tura Satana. Campy celebrities love Peaches.
So kids, grab a bucket of popcorn and take notes! Class is in session.
Join Marc Felion and me Fausto Fernós as we talk with Peaches about some of the sickest, wildest and most hilarious movies of all time. What does Peaches think about such fabulous films like:
• Valley of the Dolls
• Beyond the Valley of the Dolls
• Mommie Dearest
• Showgirls
• The Bad Seed
• The Women

You’ve heard some people say “all men are dogs.” Well these guys take it to the limit!
On today’s show we’re talking to our die-hard power listener Pup Don, who happens to be into Pup-Play- someone who’s sexual fetish is to go around on all fours pretending to be a dog. He’s brought over his pals Sal-E, Alan and his “puppy handler” Michael to join in the fun of being poked and quizzed by me, Fausto Fernós. (more…)

Get your booty in high gear people! The most famous drag queen in the world, RuPaul joins us for real on today’s show.
Well known for her 1993 chart topping release Supermodel, RuPaul Charles is still going on strong as a drag queen, comedian, musician and filmmaker.
RuPaul literally became the first drag queen supermodel after the success of her original hit song “Supermodel” when MAC cosmetics launched their product line and made her their first cover girl. It’s impossible to measure the impact RuPaul’s career has had on gay culture and music as the incredible success of his debut album permanently made drag queens a mainstream fixture in films, movies, music and television. As RuPaul says in the interview, be careful what you put out there because your dreams can come true.
On today’s show we talk to RuPaul from the city of Corpus Christi (birthplace of Selena) about her new film “Starrbooty,” a re-visioning of her 1987 original cult classic inspired by the works of Russ Meyer and John Waters. Back in the day when she was struggling to make it in New York City, RuPaul edited her own movie with two VCR decks and showed them around gay bars in the city.
Now she’s doubled her cock budget, brought on some fancy lights and cameras, but “Starrbooty” is a film true to its original spirit of drag queen mayhem and fun. Don’t expect good acting here or believable plots, just a lot of over the top drag queens, blacksploitation references and huge cocks.
Listen as RuPaul goes back, back BLACK to her roots to talk about about her early years in Atlanta Georgia, the costs of superstardom, her jousts with celebrities, being a lady in a man’s world, and the controversy surrounding her friendship with blackface comedian Shirley Q Liquor.

Alexyss K. Tylor is a woman on a mission. Having been kicked out of her home as a teenager by her mom for being in a lesbian relationship, she’s made it her calling to help us liberate our libido, our collective vaginas, penises and sperm in order to lead a happy healthy life.
Far out, hilarious and controversial, Alexyss decided several years ago to start her own cable access television program in Atlanta, Georgia with her mom. On her show, she would preach a healthy embrace of sexuality and she would broach very sensitive topics with her conservative mom.
Alexyss became an overnight sensation when someone posted a clip from her TV show about how the “power of the penis” could make a person slap somebody. The “Dick’ll Make You Slap Somebody” segment showed her mom cringe in reaction to her bold statements and question her authenticity, which made for YouTube gold. This really did strike a chord with people because who among us hasn’t slapped someone metaphorically or literally in the name of dick.
On today’s show we talk Alexyss about her mom, HIV and homophobia and how we all can move forward to embrace human sexuality.
Check out Alexyss K. Tylor on both of her websites: alexyssktylorvaginapower.com and vaginapowertv.com where she has ringtones for sale (we highly recommend them.)

Did you hear the one about the egg-shaped Russian robocop? As far as we know, this is a true story.
A Russian six-foot tall egg-shaped robot, hailed by the Russian police force as a bold new crime fighting tool broke down on it’s first day on the job, not because it couldn’t fail to comprehend the human notion of love, but because the rain made its circuits fry.
I think it actually would be adorable to be arrested by a short little egg shaped robotic police officer. Robots are SO gay. Think about it.
Twiki from Buck Rogers? Gay. HAL-9000? Persnickety. Star Wars’ C3PO? Flaming! Even real-life robot ASIMO swishes around like a flaming queen. I think I’ve even seen the Mars Sojourner Red Rover and the Unimate robotic arm getting it on.
Do you have $40 sitting around doing nothing? Well besides investing in your favorite podcast, you can invest it in real estate. Just don’t plan on being around to enjoy it. On today’s show Amanda Steinstein joins Marc Felion and me Fausto Fernós to talk about investment real estate, but the really wacky kind.
One firm Lo’ihi Development will sell you a lot of Hawaiian real estate for $40, the catch is that you wont be able to step foot on it for probably three or four millennia, since it’s located 3,000 feet below sea level on a underwater volcano.
Another developer named Dennis Hope has made over NINE MILLION DOLLARS selling acres of land on the moon (as in the one that orbits the earth) for $20. How cute! A piece of paper for $20. He’s sold his lunar land plots to celebrities like Barbara Walters, George Lucas, the deceased Ronald Reagan and even the first President Bush. I don’t know why people think most celebrities mismanage their money.

One of the most loveable podcasters, Amanda Steinstein joins us today to talk about Domino’s Pizza founder Thomas S. Monaghan desire to build a ultraconservative town free of gays, pornography, drugs, and propbably non-catholics called Ave Maria.
If you thought your neighborhood was creepy enough, just imagine what this ultraconservative hell-hole will be like. And they WILL be willing to drink the Kool-Aid.
Listen to todays show as Amanda tries out the new microphone we got to accurately capture her deliciously high-pitched voice. Lots of talk about caviar, polygamy, golddiggers, gay-hatin’ fat people, pizza zombies, and faking your own death to avoid paying $500 in parking tickets.

What’s the big deal with bisexual people? Are they really interested in both men and women? Do bisexual people really exist or are they just queers who haven’t come to terms with who they really are?
As inclusive and tolerant as some people may wish to be, one thing we might all share in common deep inside is that we’re typically unnerved by folks who walk in two worlds, weather it be by race, sexual preference or gender.
It makes us think they are unsure of who they are and make us question who we are as a result.
But really, there is nothing wrong with being bi. (more…)

Audio blogging? What’s that?
In the early days of podcasting, before such a word even existed, there were many people out there posting audio files to their blog entries to illustrate the ideas they were trying to present.
One of my favorite discoveries was trans blogger Joshua Bastian Cole, who had extensively documented his body and voice through the years as he made the process to go from woman to man. The changes are astounding. Listen to the recordings here.
When we went to cover the Harry Potter book release, I had no idea who I was talking to, but later found out it was “that guy” from the net!
Today we’re joined by Josh Cole to talk about why he did it. Why did he put the change out there for the world to see? Most trans folks rather pass, he wants people to know what journey he’s gone through.
Check out this jerk- Charles Merrill who inherited an ancient Koran worth over $60,000 just to say that the Koran, just like the Bible, is homophobic and used to justify violence.
I agree with his message, but his approach is dead wrong. For some wealthy artistocrat like him money might not mean much, but $60,000 can go a long way to building schools, fighting diseases and making the world a better and more non-violent place.
He doesn’t get that by burning the valuable antique he’s aligns himself with with book burners of all kinds and also the very type of mentality he’s hoping to eradicate.
Do you know how many Feast of Fools t-shirts $60,000 can buy? No need to pull out your calculator, the answer: 1,500 shirts.
Join Marc and me, Fausto as we talk about why most Republican Presidential candidates are unavailable from the scheduled YouTube/CNN Republcian debates (answer, they don’t want to be forced to answer difficult questions from YOU, the public.) Also: dentists with a sense of humor, and questions from you, our lovely listeners.

When the cat’s away, the mice will play. The cat being Marc, and the mice being me (Fausto), my fabulous friend Sal-E, and our tipsy intern Ryan Slasinsky. Since on the weekends Marc works as a bartender, I took the opportunity to throw a little party for my friends. We made some really delicious cocktails. Ryan made a “Dancing Queen” cocktail and Sal-E made “Krazy Kool-Aid.”
What you don’t know is that my best pal and superstar photographer Jason Smith brought over a whole mess of hot Korean homos, Andy and Michael. Okay, there were TWO. But still hot nonetheless.
Flying blindly into the eye of a storm of homosexuality, Ryan, Sal-E and me, a sort of coven of screaming queens, decided to tape a disorganized show and wound up spending most of the time fighting for attention and showing off for Andy. Oh ANDY!
Listen as we share our Eartha Kitt stories, tips for podcasting for gay podcasters, and near-death experiences with taxicab drivers.
Check out these fabulous photos of our little get-together taken by my photographer pal Jason Smith.

Standard Podcast [65:10m]:
American Idol finalist Jim Verraros holds the distinction of being the first person to come out as gay on the show. He was never in the closet.
Before RJ admitted it, before Clay denied it, there was the one and only Jim Verraros. Jim was going to college downtown when a friend suggested he try out for the television show, which at the time was unknown what a hit it was going to be. He just walked and sang his way into the top ten, next to Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini.
Placing 9th on the first season, Jim was one of the most talked about contestants to ever appear on American Idol. Because he was raised by deaf parents, he is fluent in American Sign Language. As a child, Jim ironically excelled in singing and acting at a very early age so much that the school’s music teachers had the task of explaining his talent to his parents who were naturally unaware of Jim’s abilities.
When you meet Jim face to face, you get a sense like you’ve known him all along. Warm and embracing, he’s the kind of person who you would have been best friends with in high school.
On today’s show Jim joins Gregg Shaprio, Marc Felion and me your true blue pal Fausto Fernós to talk about the sacrifices and benefits of being out gay man in the music and film industry.
Jim comes to talk about his new film, “Eating Out Two: Sloppy Seconds” a bedroom face about where queer youth try to find sex. Although these new type of films owe a lot to the works of the great John Waters, they share a common thread with films like “Porky’s” and “American Pie” in their sophomorphic goofiness and superficial sex escapades. It’s fun, like eating cotton candy, but it’s mostly sugar. Did we mention there’s full frontal nudity in the film?
Jim has been keeping busy this past year working on a follow up to his album “Rollercoaster” which he collaborated with Gabe Lopez. Some of the songs have a catchy disco groove like “I Want You” and others get darker and sexier with the irresistible “So Deep.” So go buy it here, right now.
