On today’s show we’re talking to Mike Jones, the writer and escort who came forward several years ago with evidence of a gay sex affair with the Reverend Ted Haggard.
One morning at the gym, while watching TV, Mike discovered that Ted Haggard was the true identity of one his regular sex clients.
He knew he needed to come forward to expose the minister and his church’s hypocrisy on gays. At one point in time Ted Haggard condemned same-sex loving folks despite having had numerous affairs with men himself.
Mike Jones’ tell-all book “I Had to Say Something: The Art of Ted Haggards Fall” explicitly details the sex he had with Haggard which included sex toys and even a stars and stripe thong. Yeow!
The story caused a huge rift in the powerful New Life Church, as members were forced to examine their own prejudice against same-sex relationships and even question their own religion.
Two years after the controversy, Ted Haggard and his church are back in the news as more people have come forward to expose the church’s cover up in the light of HBO’s new documentary “The Trials of Ted Haggard.”
