FOF #884 – Tunnel of Love

FOF #884 – Tunnel of Love

 Standard Podcast [1:19:53m]:

Fausto Fernós and Marc Felion take a ride on a cardboard swan boatA healthy booty is a happy one! The butt is the final frontier, not just for food leaving the body, but it’s also a psychological, sexual place wherein lies desire and identity.

In many ways, to ask people to accept gay men, is to ask them to understand and embrace anal sex. Yes, that is not ALL we do in the bedroom, but it’s one of the important things in our sexual lives.

Our Panel of experts: activist Jim Pickett, Dr. Will Wong and porn star D.C. CarterWhenever I hear the statement that “gay/butt sex is not natural,” I wonder if this person knows anything about biology or animals that live in groups. All of nature loves some back door hanky panky; monkeys do it, dolphins do it, even… ok, I’ll stop now before it turns into a Cole Porter song.

Have we always been so shy about our behinds? In the late 1800s French professional farter and entertainer Joseph Pujol, known as Le Pétomane, was a staple at the Moulin Rouge nightclub where he would play musical instruments with his butt, blow out candles from several feet away. He wasn’t farting though, he would suck air in through his butt and then forcibly expel it. He could also suck water out of a bowl with his backside. Now, that’s a power bottom.

Today we’re shining some light into the place where the sun doesn’t shine. What are some common misconceptions about anal sex? How do porn stars do all that sex in movies? Besides using condoms, what are some new ways you can protect yourself from HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases?

Our panel of experts from the Tunnel of Love Forum

Taped live at the Center on Halsted in Chicago Illinois- we’re joined by our bootylicious group of sex-experts: Chicago Porn Star J.C. Carter, Dr. Will Wong of the Chicago Department of Public Health and our very own Jim Pickett of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and Project IRMA.

FOF #807 – Let’s Take a Glass Together

 Standard Podcast [1:08:32m]:

We just love you guys! A toast from Marc and Fausto.“Walter, fix me a drink!” In the 1960s, 70s and early 80s we always saw characters on TV drinking all the time, either at home, after work, during lunch, or pretty much all the time.

Everybody seemed to have a little cocktail bar set up in their living room. And then all of a sudden, everyone got rid of them. Except for TV shows like Absolutely Fabulous and Sex and the City, we seldom see TV characters getting drunk like we used to. What happened?

Are we drinking less today, or are we hiding it better?

On today’s show, Feast of Fools teams up with Project CRYSP, Chicago Task Force on LGBT Substance Abuse and Sidetrack to bring you a very special live podcast forum about our complicated relationship with alcohol.

Meet the experts-

David McKirnan Dr. David McKirnan, Professor of Psychology at University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Research Investigator at Howard Brown. He began studying alcohol & drug use among GLBT people in the mid-80s and he later examined the intersection of substance use & HIV risk. Think of him as the Dr. Kinsey of booze!

Lisa RivitzLisa Rivitz, the Program Manager for Recovering with Pride Substance Abuse Program at Howard Brown Health Center. Her work focuses on addictions, 12-step recovery for substance abuse and other compulsive behaviors, working with individuals to overcome their abuse with drugs and alcohol.

Paul DavisAnd meet two bartenders from your favorite gay bars in Chicago, from Sidetrack Paul Davis and from Minibar, Tom Andrika. Paul’s been in recovery for as long as he’s been a bartender at Sidetrack, which has been called the “best gay bar in America.” What’s it like to be a bartender at such a well visited place when you don’t touch the sauce?

Tom AndrikaIn 1946 Tom Adrinka’s grandfather opened up a bar in a small town in Ohio called “The Gay Bar” but it wasn’t a gay bar. But as gays became more visible in the coming years, his grandfather changed it to the “Twin Rivers Tavern.” It’s funny that fate allowed him to have two gay grandsons!

Today he works at Minibar, a gay bar in Chicago known for their sexy male bartenders.

Listen as we talk about what it means to drink responsibly, how to avoid those nasty hangovers and clear up some misconceptions on mixing your drinks.

True stories about boozing it up from Chicago’s gay bars plus questions from you in our audience! Click here for a photo gallery from the event (pictures by Fausto Fernós and Rick Aiello).

FOF #792 – Sex on the Superhighway

 Standard Podcast:

Lifelube Panel of Experts

How do you get off and have a good time on the internet superhighway without a fender bender?

On today’s show we have the recording of the live forum that Marc Felion and I, Fausto Fernós, moderated at the Center on Halsted last month. The forum was developed and sponsored by our friends at Lifelube to figure out how to have fun and be safe while looking for sex or love online. This forum featured three great experts on how the internet is changing our sexuality.

First, Stephan Adelson, former general manager of Manhunt, a hook up site for men seeking sex with men. He was part of the team that introduced the idea of displaying one’s HIV status in online personal profiles.

Stephan currently works as the Executive Director of the nonprofit Internet Intervention Incorporated. He also works as an internet consultant on privacy issues and recently developed National Guidelines for Internet Interventions (PDF).

Second, Beau Gratzer, director of HIV and STD prevention at Howard Brown Health Center. Beau oversees many sexual health programs including those targeted to gay men online in Chicago.

Beau served on the National Coalition of STD Directors’ expert advisory committee that recently published the “Internet Interventions Guidelines” which provide guidance to health departments and community organizations providing HIV/STI related health information and programs online

And Third, Doctor Brian Mustanski, Assistant professor at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Brian is among the first to study how gay, lesbian and bisexual people interact online.

He developed one of the first online studies of gay lesbian and bisexual people. The majority of his work focuses on the development of “sexual minority” people and how the Internet affects us. He is also working on a study on the health and development of LGBT youth.

Listen as we talk about looking for sex and love online, the mysterious bug chasers, internet addiction and the the hunting instinct,

We also take questions from the fabulous people who attended this very fun and informative questions from the audience.

You can also read a blow by blow account of the forum at Michael Lehet’s blog, “What’s A Boy To Do.” Thank you Michael!

FOF #752 – Good Sex, Bad Sex

FOF #752 – Good Sex, Bad Sex

 Standard Podcast [1:32:36m]:

Dr. Gary Harper and Dr. Michelle MoralesSex is like lot like pizza- no matter how bad it is it’s still pretty good.

But the thing with sex is that everyone thinks they are the greatest lover, but sex is also like baseball; everyone can play baseball, but how many of us are good enough to make it to the world series?

In the 1934 film Sex Madness, the opening credits implore us that syphilis “must no longer remain hushed, but must be fought in the open like any other dangerous contagious disease….humanity must be enlightened! Ignorance must be abolished! Young and old.. rich and poor, they must be told.”

Sex Madness is a camp movie but even way back in the 1930s people struggled with how to discuss sex out in the open. Substitute HIV/AIDS for syphilis and you can see we might not have come as far as we thought in thinking about diseases and sex.

On today’s show, join for a lively discussion at the Center on Halsted in Chicago on gay men’s relationship to sex and risk.

The forum features panel experts Dr. David Halperin of the University of Michigan, Dr. Gary Harper of DePaul University and Dr. Michele Morales of Northwestern University, as well as LifeLube’s Jim Pickett and questions from you, the general public.

Discover some of the inaccurate and damaging psychological concepts that are being used to describe gay men. Are some of the studies being done actually making us sick? What do we all ultimately desire?

FOF #742 – Live from Steamworks

 Standard Podcast [1:00:02m]:

How many people does it take to milk the bull? It’s the show you’ve all been waiting for, our LIVE podcast from Steamworks! Of all places indeed.

We packed up the microphones and recording equipment and took our booties down to the “Sexiest Place on Earth,” also known as Steamworks on 3246 N Halsted Street in Chicago.

What a turn out! No longer do I need to imagine the audience being naked, as they really were almost naked. Sporting nothing but clean towels, we were surrounded by hunky and lunky men watching our hi-jinks and tomfoolery.

Listen as Jim Pickett, Tracy Tyler, Sal-E and his surprise guest Terryaki, Marc Felion and me, Fausto Fernós share our wit and wisdom with the good people at Steamworks.

Did I forget to mention we interviewed porn actor Vinnie D’Angelo? Vinnie looks hot so please chack out his pictures as he sat on a very special cake.

Tracy Tyler is GoddessThe girl who stole the show was Tracy Tyler. Pictured here, she caused quite a commotion when she boldly announced she was going to compete in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China by becoming the first transgenered athlete to compete in synchronized swimming.

Don’t hold you breath though, as Tracy is not quite ready to go under the knife just yet. Marc and I wrote that skit with the help of Mike Oliphant back in 2004 for the last Olympics in Athens just before we started podcasting. An old chestnut like that deserved a new life and we’re glad Tracy could
shine at it.

Oh what fun we had! The podcast that always helps you to release the pressure- Feast of Fools.

FOF #645 – Live from The Stud Bar in San Francisco!

 Standard Podcast [1:31:40m]:

Sal-E in front of the Steamworks BannerSexy listener Sid!The wait is over! Here it is, the taping of our live show from The Stud Bar in San Francisco. The City by the Bay with all the gays was very good to us and boy did we have a blast! We just can’t wait to get back there.

The fresh air, handsome guys, the Californian relaxed atmosphere, the homeless people on steroids- San Francisco has it all.

Amanda Steinstein delivers the high notes! We are very proud of everyone who participated in the live show and blown away by their performances. Amanda, Ronnie, Sal-E, Ronn Vigh, and Heklina were all were amazing and delivered their bit with great skill. Without their support and participation we wouldn’t be where we are today. We know it wasn’t always easy traveling but we are much richer for the experience. Big thanks to all of you!

Well, it wouldn’t be a Feast of Fools live show with out someone sitting on a cake and this time Curtis took up the clarion call. He brought a lovely cake with the Steamworks bathhouse logo that he piped on himself. It was fun to see this silver fox in his Feast of Fools shirt sit on the cake. We just can’t get enough of that cake sitting!

Marc and Fausto at the Stud Bar in San FranciscoIt was also fun to have some of the listeners like John, Sid and Dolores participate in some of our antics on stage. John and sweet Dolores who came with her twin sister Mary actually ate some dogie treats that are fit for “human pup consumption.” What good sports.

Curtis Jensen sits on a cake! One of the sexiest moments of the evening was when our studly listener Sid (pictured here on the top right) joined in the cake sitting fun. He even did it bareback style. Boy did that make Heklina happy as she did to him what she is famous for. Eek! Eeek indeed.

Amanda’s fabulous act brought several listeners, including Karen Lewis who helped create the very first Feast of Fools live show in 1998, up on stage. They improvised an orgasmic orchestra. Wait till you hear it. It will either make you laugh or turn you on- and if it’s the latter, please get some help

Thanks also to Heklina for hooking us up with The Stud Bar, and finally, to all the people who donated money and bought t shirts to get us to California and back- a round of applause for you! You are the best and we couldn’t do it without you. And lastly to Steven, we did this for you and all your hard work putting the website together for us. Thank you.

Check out this fabulous photo gallery of pics from the event taken by Steven Peterson.
