"Talk is cheap"... "It is too late"...

Why do we assume that the members of this church gave nothing to the opposition of 8 campaign? Do we know whether or not the members of this community were pounding the pavement, giving time and resources, standing up for equality and dignity for all?

This Church and MANY churches all over the state (and nation) have been extremely vocal in their attempts to say that hate and bigotry have no place in either the Church or the the Law (however far separated the two may be). This faith community and MANY other faith communities all over the state (and nation) have given of their time and resources to ensure equality for all, because this Church believes that doing so is to live the way Christ lived.

'Christianity for all' Can be interpreted different ways, but it means that all who wish to come are welcome to do so. Everyone is accepted :-) not required.

My intention is to start a fight, a huge discussion, a major confrontation between these churches. Religion(Christianity, Islam) is what caused all this misery. So they should do whatever they can to improve our situation and help us to get out of this mess.

If we had still those Roman or Greece gods we would most likely be fine. Men could marry men and even hetero guys would have probably openly fun with thier catamites from time to time. I wonder which Roman, Greece god would be most popular among gay people?

I want them to specifically name, call out the churches which supported prop 8.

Why is the only support you will accept the support that you define?

Have you called upon, say, me to do the same thing? I've spoken out against prop 8 without specifically naming every person or entity I disagree with, yet you don't hold me to that standard.

If they did that, would that be "good enough"?

Especially if you consider that, to their likely audience (and yes, I'm guessing) this issue is not their top concern, I think it makes a good message. Why clutter, qualify, or otherwise discourage them?

It's like saying, "You can't order me around!" to someone who says, "Have a nice day." It's taking the context of the statement much too far, rather than taking the sentiment of it in the vein in which it was given.

There are other churches who donated for prop 8 but the LDS church is one of the major donator.

They stated indirectly what they thought about radical churches. I want them to specifically name, call out the churches which supported prop 8.

The Catholic Church with their very narrow-minded, cold-hearted and unworldly leader, the pope still have a lot of influence on most Christians. The popes decides the course and the priests have to follow or pretend at least to follow and influence the Christians. Especially in Africa the Catholic Church's influence is still huge. They preach nonsense like the use of condoms is not good and one can claim they are responsbile for thousands of Aids victims in Africa.

Yes it's an apology that actually means a lot to me. My reaction is completely positive to the message. I think its a great thing and I hope that we can work with their leadership in some coalition building. I think churches like this one will be critical in building bridges to get other churches that weren't so supportive talking about the issue with a different perspective. They can write off outreach from a non-religious LGBT person like myself, but I think they'll at least give a fellow Christian Church the deference to hear what they have to say.

Bravo to them and apology accepted.

Nothing more for me to say here except that I think it's wonderful, we need more churches like this, and if you want to be in a church, be in a church. And if you don't, realize that everyone has their reasons for going, and that going to church doesn't make you crazy or deluded or a believer in ghosts or the supernatural or anything. I mean, it could, if that's your thing...

The apology seems odd to me, but at lest there trying. I have to agree with Marc and Brain-fork on this one

christian83,
please do keep in mind that while the LDS church donated a bunch of money and did what so many of us see as bigotry (and i agree) so did many other churches.

Bracer,
I've decided you just hate religion. All of it, and lump it all into one big sum of said hate. You know what it reminds me of? "Those retarded Mormons". You hating on them as hard as you tend to do is no different than them hating on us as much as they tend to do.

Why do you assume that if the Catholic church changed it's view the majority of Christians will change their view as well? The Vatican has little to no control over what half of it's on following believes, yet alone the majority of Christians.

An apology is not enough. They could clearly state what they think about radical, fundamental churches.

They have clearly stated what they think. Look at the bill board in the article I linked to, they call them narrow minded, judgmental, deceptive, and manipulative. That's a pretty clear message right there. As for the apology not being enough, what exactly have the majority of people that oppose prop 8 been doing that is so much better? They are actively trying to organize their congregation (and Christians of other sects) to stand up for our rights.

If you're expecting them to donate money, or even tell their congregation to donate money, then you're expecting hypocrisy. Some sects actually believe in the separation of church and state and actively practice this belief (unlike the Mormons, Catholics, Evangelicals, et al.).

An apology is not enough. They could clearly state what they think about radical, fundamental churches.

But as long as the Catholic church does not change their view, probably the majority of the Christians won't change thier standpoint towards gays too.

If that Missiongathering Christian Church care so much, they should not only apologize but speak out and do something against those radical churches, like the LDS (Mormon)Church.

They do; that's why they're doing this.

In this way, they make a pretty bold statement: we're Christian, we consider ourselves Christ-like, we consider ourselves to be walking the walk... and we deplore what these other folks are doing.

It carries a lot of weight, because it helps remove the "it's a Christian thing... if you're Christian, you're anti-gay-marriage" for the average person. If the average American is saying, "I don't really care, except that I'm Christian, and the Christians are against it, so I'll go with that", this will help them understand not all Christians feel the same.

But you can interpret "Christianity for all" also in another way.
Like, Christianity is so great, you should all "enjoy" it.

Back to the topic. If that Missiongathering Christian Church care so much, they should not only apologize but speak out and do something against those radical churches, like the LDS (Mormon)Church.

I agree with Cray and Marc about the statement and sentiment, and yagerma about what the "for all" means. For the anti-religious: if you don't want to be religious, that's cool - don't. We have that right. We also have the right to be religious. Both have the right to espouse their view (which, in your defense, is what you're doing), but I draw the line when that view talks about what others should/need to do.

I agree with Marc, it is a wonderful sentiment. The statement "Christianity for All" means that all are welcome. They are saying that their church does not discriminate. I do not think that they are saying that all should be Christians.

Good for them!
