Step in time! Get in line! Broadway in Chicago and theater producer Cameron Mackintosh bring the fabulous Mary Poppins to the Cadillac Theater in Chicago.
This musical adaptation of the beloved Disney film (iTunes) and books by P.L Travers (Amazon) features over the top musical numbers and acrobatic dance sequences that will make Lionel Richie bite his fingernails in jealousy.
British actor Gavin Lee, who originated the role of Bert in London outshines Dick Van Dykes film portrayal from the 1964 film. He brings so much charm and magic to the role of narrator and quasi-romantic interest to Mary Poppins that you totally forget about Dick Van Dyke mugging for the camera with a bad cockney accent.
Mary was played by Ashley Brown who also played Belle in Beauty and the Beast. It’s hard to compete with a legend like Julie Andrews but Ashley Brown playfully embraces the quirky character with the right amount of propriety and willful arrogance.
Listen as we reflect on the joyful musical and it’s deliciously dark overtones, including some wonderfully bratty children and evil sinister nanny who get their comeuppance. With tickets starting at $25, you’ll have a supercalifragilisticexpealidoicously good time.
Michael’s on his way to Amsterdam, where he and his pals are renting a houseboat for the week. Join him for a listener meet up on April 18th at the Soho Cafe at 4pm.
Listen as Michael joins us to speak with Debra Taylor, the high school teacher from Granfield, Oklahoma who was forced to resign after her class on ethics was shut down by the superintendent of schools when he learned about a class project based on the Larramie Project.
The Laramie project is a play that deals with the public reaction to the real-life brutal murder of college student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming. Debra Taylor used the play to discuss hate crimes and tolerance in the class. The superintendent shut down the class after Debra held a mock funeral so the students could mourn the termination of the project.
Debra was later forced to resign and the school turned the class into a silent reading hour. She joins us on the phone from Oklahoma.

An article on Marketing to Marketers says that if you see any brand name in a viral video or blog meme that there is marketing agency behind its popularity. I know it can be like finding out there is no Santa Claus but even if you are sold a story, a good story is always a good stoery.

And turning the tables on a phone call from a sexy stalker from Portland, Oregon. Is he Polish, Persain or Prussian?

Another great show!!
Can’t wait to see Mary Poppins this Wednesday!!
Perfect timing guys! I’m super… excited to see the show now.
I loved it Mike, you won’t be sorry. Wish I was seeing it with you!
Great show – lovely to hear Michael again. Charlie never did say what the iPhone app was that he used to get your number?
Hi Boys – thank you SO MUCH for having me on the show again. I always have a wonderful time chatting with you and my stomach always hurts from laughing so much!
@Mike – you’re going to LOVE Mary Poppins, I’ve seen it twice and I have a feeling I’ll go see it again before it leaves in July!
@Mark – Thank you : -) If Fausto tells you that then he’ll need to change his phone number!
Hehe – I’ll have to make do with stalking them on here and facebook I can’t afford international calls in the current financial climate
But I have to tell you about a great little iPhone app that is free and totally pointless “Balls” is a relaxing little app that is getting great reviews check it out.
Wow! This show had everything. The always terrific Michael Lehet, a timely interview with the ethics teacher fired by someone who lacks ethics, and a surly stalker. Damn I wish we were coming up this summer to see Mary Poppins but it ain’t happening. Maybe she will fly down here and see us.
charlie sounded creepy
Wonderful show!!! Made my first commute to my new job enjoyable. A little bit of something for everyone! Hugs!
Stalkers usually are. They want to take but never give.
For a bullshit compound word, “yucknasty” is a pretty good one Fausto! It sounds much better than “chillaxin’”. This was a great, entertaining show!
Thank you Rich! Its Yumtasty!
I just came back from university and was really down because i had an exam today which went not well.
But the show made me smile again. Thanks for your compliment, Fausto!
After a couple of drinks I might not only take off my shirt.
I am so excited to meet up with other listeners in Amsterdam!
I love when you guys get an unexpected call from someone. The best so far was the call from your meat dealer.
@Andy – I’m looking forward to meeting everyone too, I think we may have a BIG Group as I know there will be 8 in my group and Kevin Thomas may join us with 3 of his friends and all of you guys! Marc & Fausto even gave me some treats to share. See you guys in a few weeks!!!
Just got back from Mary Poppins!! Best show ever! Even got to go backstage and meet Ashley Brown herself!! such a great day… bright as a morning in May!! I feel like I could fly!!
Hey thanks for including me on the show, I appricate it
I hope to see the stage production of Mary Poppins some time. Great show, guys!
