Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and we have the delightful Alpana Singh on today’s show to talk about wines to share with your loved ones.
Alpana Singh is a master sommelier, blogger and weekly columnist for Chicago’s Redeye Newspaper and host of the four time Emmy Award-winning restaurant review TV show, Check, Please! on WTTW.
Alpana just started writing about how to pick the perfect wine anytime on her new blog What Would Alpana Drink?
One person she’d like to share a glass with is Sandra Lee, the campy host of Semi Homemade on the Food Channel. Her over-the-top sensibility and low-brow taste make for hilarious television.
Sandra’s shtick is to prepare food that is 70% pre-made or from a box and 30% fresh or homemade ingredients. So on today’s show we try out one of Sandra’s recipes in the feast of Fools test kitchen to see how they turn out. We made her brownies with prunes and applesauce with a raspberry jam swirl on top.
We also made her Pink Elephant cocktail. We had mixed results- the drink was OK but the brownies tasted odd. Maybe the prunes threw us off
We’re trying to set up Alpana on a double date with Sandra, will it happen?
Join us as we talk about drinking wine in South America and if the people of Uruguay know about the Simpsons’ U are gay joke?

Are you suffering from Facebookhausen syndrome? You are if you often find yourself exaggerating the negative aspects of your everyday life in order to gain attention on social media.
On today’s show we tried a little experiment to see just how much sympathy we could elicit with a really pathetic status update: “Fausto feeling down, blue and sad.” Note the frowny face.
Listen and find out how many responses we got in just a few short minutes. Thank you to everyone who participated in the fun, sorry to cry wolf.
Emma Brady becomes the first woman to receive the news of her divorce through her husband’s relationship status change on Facebook.
Friday was World Nude Day. Did you celebrate? We sure did! If you visit the World Nude Day website you’ll see mostly men in pretty decent shape golfing, playing cricket or rambling through the village green in the buff.

Alpana is adorable!
Awesome show! I remember the one from last year and she is really great! And yes, Sandra Lee is pretty crazy on Food Network…….I guess I am a total FN junkie as my tv is pretty much always on FN and my DVR is full of their shows LOL That and Top Chef. Anyways, I actually get to go on a date with a cute guy this year……….I ‘bought’ him at the gay bachelor auction a week ago…..LOL!!! So I’ll take the wine tips and use ‘em!
I like Pinot Noir too guys, so it’s not just for the ladies. Hilarious show today, you guys got me with the frowny face Facebook status!
BITCHES DON’T DIE!!!!!!
I lost it with that story. Alpana, I love you!!! What a delightful show!!!
My mom loooooves Food Network. I like it too, but I don’t watch it nearly as much as she does. And she thinks Sandra Lee is awesome. I think she likes how she takes simple things and makes them a little better. She’s so campy though… I totally agree with Alpana that Sandra is like a gay man in that way. Fausto, work that connection!!!
I can’t wait to see you on the show, Fausto. I DVR it every day so I’ll be sure to watch.
Fausto is amazing
I love when you have Alpana on the show. She is so funny. I understand her obsession with Sandra Lee. Sandra just seems fun always having a cocktail and her boobs always on display. I made a donut cookie recipe of hers and it was pretty good. I think I would have skipped the pruney brownie. More Alpana please.
I love Alpana! She’s just super fun on your show. I love to laugh to her laugh ;o)
Bring her back as often as possible!
Marc and Alpana would have beautiful children. Hey if it were possible Marc and Fausto would have beautiful children. Thanks again for another great show guys.
Super, anything is possible! It’s the thought that counts. No, actually the attempt counts too.
And JS46 thank you for the compliment!
Alpana is soooo lovely!
Yay! Another Alpana ep! She has a great laugh. (and a nice rack!)
I love Alpana, can’t wait to hear all of the show!
Sandra Lee is great, just for the WTF factor. She’s hilarious, the tablescapes that cost $100+, followed by “Cocktail Time” where it is 70% liquor, 30% mixer.
We also watch Rachel Ray for the “whiffle bat” moment, where she says a word so stupid you want to hit her with a bat.
Alpana is amazing! I love being able to impart stuff on my wine snob friends. The tip on buying was incredibly helpful. She’s just so charming and friendly I could listen to you guys chat for days. Thank you!
Yeah, Ms. Singh is a song full of love and wine know-how!
Love it when you are on the show Alpana!! Wish you were on more often!! I love your wine advice, it’s always great and interesting.
