Interview with living lesbian music legend Gretchen Phillips on the early days of her band Two Nice Girls, nurturing your creative spirit and her first new album in five years “I Was Just Comforting Her.”

Way before Melissa Etheridge and k.d. lang came out of the closet as loving the ladies, Gretchen Phillips wrote songs about the joys of being queer. Being a lesbian in her view was not only fabulous, but hilarious! One of her biggest hits was with the band Two Nice Girls and their song “I Spent My Last $10 (on Birth Control and Beer)” gained national attention, including a mention in Rolling Stone Magazine.
The band broke eventually up, but their music lives on. Last year, they re-released their first album on iTunes for everyone to enjoy.
Since then, this living lesbian legend has been part of The Gretchen Phillips Experience, Dusty Trails, Joan Of Arkansas, Phillips & Driver, Lord Douglas Phillips and The Gretchen Phillips Ministries as well as performing as a solo artist.
She has more bands than I have ex-boyfriends!
Listen as Gretchen plays some hits from the past and performs songs from her first new album in five years, I Was Just Comforting Her.
Join us as we talk about how survive creatively when your band breaks up, appropriating Southern Christian religious right wing culture and the magic of low-fidelity music in a digital world.

Some queer Puerto Ricans feel as if they’re from another planet- strangers in a strange land no matter where they go. Negotiating between cultures gives us fresh eyes with which to seek out the infinite possibilities.
On today’s show we’re talking to the hilariously giddy Larry La Fountain, professor of queer studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Don’t let the title of Professor fool you- Larry full of laughter and insight.
His new book, Blue Fingernails/Uñas Pintadas De Azul, is a collection of fourteen exotic short stories on sexy subjects like s & m, trannies, prostitution, science fiction, fashion and pornography. We’re happy for Larry that his book is getting good reviews.
Listen as Larry takes a look at living outside of the community you grew up in and what it means to be “the other” in today’s modern world. Are we all like Spock on Star Trek? Why does Fausto identify with B’Elanna Torres from Star Trek: Voyager?
Larry weighs in on whether or not there was a love affair between Lorca and Dalí as portrayed in the film Little Ashes.
Plus our take on the new Star Trek movie, and how time travel is the magical Hollywood eraser that can ignite a beloved science fiction franchise.
Dolly Parton gets a Ph.D. in fabulousness from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Out of Africa and onto American television- Bebe Zahara Benet is on today show!
As the front runner in RuPaul’s Drag Race, she’s captured our hearts with her glamorous embrace of the “untamed beauty” and brought a delicious African flair to the show.
Will Bebe be America’s Next Drag Superstar?
Trading the wilds of Africa for the Midwestern prairie, Bebe left her homeland of Cameroon West Africa to pursue a more creative life in the U.S.
Bebe fell into drag at a runway show when some female models didn’t show up. They quickly needed someone as a replacement, and the high-fashion ladies dresses fit Bebe like Cinderella’s slipper so she sashayed and shantayed down the runway and made drag history.
Listen as we talk about how everything will change if she does indeed win the coveted title, and whether or not she had any second thoughts on being on a TV show that pits drag queen against drag queen.
Can RuPaul find Cameroon on a map? Can you?
Getting the love and support you need from your family.
Embracing the drag queen inside you.
Bebe shares with us her secret recipe on how to “cook your face.” No, it’s not a cannibal thing, it’s a make up application technique.

It’s hard to believe that we are into our fourth year of podcasting! With so many shows under our belt we decided to assemble a clip show to commemorate the good times. Welcome to the 702 Club!
We don’t do a lot of clip shows because honestly, the editing process is difficult and time consuming. As much fun as these clip shows are and as nice as it is to look back, we always aim to stay focused on the future, because that is where the possible lies.
In the coming weeks we have a lot of great new shows and guests lined up for you to enjoy. So please stick with us as we move on.
I know a lot of people will write and say “I miss this person” when they hear them on a clip. Please be assured we miss these people too. We had great times and good friendships with them. They contributed so much to all of us. They helped us live, love, laugh and grow.
It hurts when we come up with a great comedy bit and think “perfect for so an so” and there not there to deliver it, but it’s the old show business cliche that “The show must go on” and indeed, on we do go. It’s always a new day at the Feast of Fools and we will always seek out the brightest and best for you and for us.
The most important thing you can do to show guests you care is to get a profile! The bigger the community, the more they’ll be encouraged to keep on doing what they are doing.
If you are a fan of someone who appears on the show, then never forget to post your comments on the show they are on- it’s your way of giving applause. Send them a private message through the website, get to know them and show them you appreciate their efforts.
Thanks to the following “superheroes” who did extensive research and contributed clip ideas: berrym16, rcktmanil, JoshPoz, gabe, kwhinsahw, and PupDon. Kisses to you all.
Don’t forget that we’re offering these brand new, firecracker red t-shirts. The gorgeous limited-run t-shirts are printed on 100% combed cotton on American Apparel t-shirts.
