Standard Podcast [1:08:31m]:
Look out behind you! Do not go in there! Watch out! You always see it coming, but somehow, the victim in many horror films is always ridiculously unaware that they are about to be bludgeoned to death. Why is that?
On today’s show we’ve got movie maven Peaches Christ talking with us about Horror Movies every gay man must see.
Why are queers so enamored by the horror film genre? Is it the themes of being an outsider seeking revenge on the world or is it the joy of seeing the jocks and cheerleaders hacked into pretty little pieces.
But is this a genre an unsuitable outlet for teen angst after the tragic events at schools like Columbie or Viginia Tech?
Listen as we talk with Peaches about films like Rosemary’s Baby, Silence of the Lambs, Nightmare on Elmstreet, Fright Night and Evil Dead.
Is Bruce Campbell a gay icon? Do the two Corrys suffer from Mather’s syndrome? And what is the queen of all horror films?
Plus a special surprise- Peaches reveals everything about her upcoming slasher film. Who are the celebrity stars cast in this exciting new move? Listen to the show if you vant to know.

What a night! Trannyshack’s Kiss-Off party came and went without a hitch, marking the end of an era in San Francisco’s drag scene and the start of a new one for all involved.
Over 3,000 delighted fans showed up at the Regency Center on Saturday night to watch some of the country’s best drag queens and drag-inspired musicians dazzle the audiences with their elaborate, colorful and majestic performances.
Click here to see photos taken from the event. (More to come)
In many ways the Trannyshack Kiss Off was a collection of the best moments from one of the longest running and influential drag shows in the country.
On today’s show we hang out once again with gender illusionist and Daughter of Satan Peaches Christ and the delightful Curtis Jensen to look at the final moments of Trannyshack’s Kiss Off Party and to help us say goodbye to this wonderful city as we head home to Chicago.
Listen for the juicy behind the scenes details as we dish up the dirt on what rocked and what was mocked at Trannyshack.
Can the hilarious Lady Bunny read and write her own name? Maybe, but one thing the hilarious founder of Wigstock can do is make you laugh with her raunchy collection of rotten jokes. You can look forward to our backstage interview with her next week.
Plus- Raya Light and Hoku Mama Swamp’s crowd pleasing performances, Beyond the Valley of the San Francisco Underground Short Film Festival and Obama’s pick for President, whoops, I mean VICE President Sen. Joe Biden.
He’s the one who misspoke several months ago about Obama being “clean.” What do you think about his pick for VP? Will this alliance unite the democratic party?

I love having celebrities in my hotel room. On today’s show we’ve got three delicious stars in our penthouse suite at the Hotel Mark Twain in San Francisco- Peaches Christ, Heklina, and Lady Miss Kier!
The three of them, along with a multitude other fabulous performers will be working the stage on Saturday night at the Trannyshack Final Kiss-OFF Party, a big adieu to the weekly club show that has influenced drag queens for over 12 years.
But as they say in show business, nothing ever really dies. Will “Lash Out” be the next project in the works or will Trannyshack continue in a different form?
Lady Miss Kier is best known as the lead singer and co-producer for the mega-hit band DEEE-LITE, who’s songs “Groove is in the Heart” and “What is Love” defined the sound for a whole generation. Today their music still gets an enthusiastic response from people everywhere.
As a art director and fashion designer her influence was felt throughout the 90s in club kid fashion, video and in graphic design.
Join us for an intoxicating fun show as we dish it up with Heklina and Peaches Christ about the final night of Trannyshack in San Francisco, the impact of Dee-Lite’s music, and living in the 1990’s
Plus questions from you, our listeners.

We’re in San Francisco! As the cradle of gay culture, the City by the Bay is home to fabulous folks who’ve shaped the way we think of all things rainbow.
Why did it become so gay? Was it the sailors that settled here after World War II? Was it the gold miners shacking up during those long cold nights? No matter how it happened you look at it, San Francisco is the place for delicious dishes, hot destinations and innovative drag queens.
We’re staying in the beautiful Hotel Mark Twain in downtown San Francisco, so we had to order room service, and who popped in with a serving cart of fabulousness? Peaches Christ and Curtis Jensen! Two of our San Francisco favorites.
It’s a blast having one of the most famous drag queens in the whole world hanging with you in your hotel room and swapping stories about campy films. Peaches and I both just LOVE the film Showgirls. Peaches shares with us some new interesting stories about what makes the film such a spectacle.
Listen as we talk with Curtis and Peaches on how the tacky film on Las Vegas Showgirls came to be, and why Elizabeth Berkley might be one of the greatest actresses of her time.
We had an amazing experience at the Star Trek Experience in it’s final death throes. The Star trek themed Las Vegas attraction is scheduled to close on Sept 1, 2008. We met people that were married on the bridge of the fake Enterprise, a woman who rode the rides over 700 times and another woman who we just had to hug because she was so sad that she had tears in her eyes that the the place was closing.
We ran into a lovely listener Austin from Salt Lake City at the Star Trek Experience. He was with his drag family enjoying a meal at Quark’s. We dished about Vegas, the show and we discovered that there is a bit of a rivalry between San Francisco and Salt Lake City Drag Queens. Will the drag wars continue? Listen to find out what Peaches has to say about the state of drag in San Francisco.
There is a silver lining to San Francisco’s Halloween woes and Peaches has the recipe for fun. Yes, we know it’s only August but for the gays it’s never too early to plan your Halloween costume and festivities.
Since we are staying at the Hotel Mark Twain here’s a little quote from Mark Twain just for fun, “I don’t like to commit myself about heaven and hell – you see, I have friends in both places.”
If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to listen to the Feast of Fools podcast.

Fellas, we’re doing it for the ladies today! Well, not really. It’s all about how you love the stuff for the ladies.
The popularity of the “Sex in the City Movie,” a film adaptation of the tv series that’s popular with gay men make us wonder what’s behind this love affair between gay men and movies made for straight women?
Where does the term “chick flick” come from and what does it really mean? Although it once was used to degrade films made about women, it’s now seen as a legit genre all on it’s own.
The inclusion of gay comedians like comic Mario Cantone show that filmmakers these days take into consideration their loyal gay audiences.
On today’s show San Francisco Drag Queen Peaches Christ joins us to talk about those wonderful chick flicks every gay man must see. Movies made for women, about women but somehow strike a chord in every gay man’s heart.
What is the legacy of Hollywood’s leading ladies like Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe and the men behind these great women like directors George Cuckor, Russ Meyers and Roger Ebert!
Peaches Christ’s fabulous film series Midnight Mass starts it’s 2008 series kicks off on 4th of July weekend, Friday and Saturday night with the film Showgirls.
Peaches Christ is goddess, and this is Feast of Fools.

WWPCW? What Would Peaches Christ Watch? A campy horror film with lots of gratuitous sex, violence and wild women on the verge of insanity, of course!
Brainchild of filmmaker Joshua Grannell, Peaches Christ is well known in San Francisco for the 10-year-running Midnight Mass movie events where drag queens perform tacky skits before the screening of a campy feature film.
The hilarious, insane and loosely scripted performances with outrageous costumes (check out her film-dress here) hark back to the hippie Cockette shows of the late 1960s. Peaches is our kind of gal!
Don’t let the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence inspired eye make-up fool you. Peaches Christ is dead serious about her love of film and the success of Midnight Mass is a testament to her passion for great movies and the value of a gay sensibility.
Like our friend Curtis Jensen says, Peaches is a guardian of our culture: “Peaches is presenting a forum for the screening of these films that have always had a special layer of meaning for Queer audiences. I see her as a the queer equivalent of the Cinematheque in Paris, where for years film enthusiasts could be educated about film. She is educating a new generation of queers about the rich cultural heritage of camp and cult film.”
So much in fact that in 2007, Peaches Christ celebrated the ten year anniversary of Midnight Mass with guest appearances by John Waters, Elvira, and Tura Satana. Campy celebrities love Peaches.
So kids, grab a bucket of popcorn and take notes! Class is in session.
Join Marc Felion and me Fausto Fernós as we talk with Peaches about some of the sickest, wildest and most hilarious movies of all time. What does Peaches think about such fabulous films like:
• Valley of the Dolls
• Beyond the Valley of the Dolls
• Mommie Dearest
• Showgirls
• The Bad Seed
• The Women

For many people, seeing the cult-film “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” for the first time was a breakthrough.
I remember my first time in college hearing about this bizzare film experience where people threw food at the movie screen and re-enacted the entire film in costume and it had a murderous mad scientist transvestite named Dr. Frankenfurter. It was a celebration of sexuality, laughing at the ridiculousness of homophobia as we “gave ourselves over to absolute pleasure.”
One of my first experiences dressing up in drag was landing the part of a chorus member in the live musical production in Austin, Texas where we were required to wear vampish make-up, leather, lace and panty-hose. I was quite popular with the audience members, as I always found an excuse to sing the “Time Warp” song and land on some hunky audience member’s lap.
When Rocky Horror picture show was first released, it wasn’t well received despite the live musical version being a hit in London. Still some imaginative people saw gold in the celluloid and decided to embrace the film for it’s quirky campy self. The movie ignited the careers of actors Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick.
For Peaches Christ, every Midnight Mass movie event is a celebration of the queer experience in film. Every summer Peaches and her pals get together and camp it up before a sold-out crowd with their special brand of cult-film inspired mayhem. Peaches knows and loves these campy films like a momma knows the sound of her child’s voice.
On today’s show Peaches joins us to talk about some of the hottest and campiest sci-fi films every gay man must see.
Why is the film Flash Gordon so boring? It has everyting you could ask for, hunky football playing heroes, campy villians and a score by Queen. Yet somehow this film puts everyone to sleep, despite it’s decadent costume, plot and sets.
Is Starship Troopers the sequel to Showgirls? And why do gay people love blood, gore and guts with a sci-fi twist? Maybe it’s our shared experience in having to live a life outside of our own. Maybe we just like tacky movies and glittery things.
The film Xanadu, shot in the late 70s featured Olivia Newton-John playing Kira, a greek muse that inspires a struggling record company artist to quit his job and pursue his dreams. Gene Kelley joins in the fun as a big band orchestra leader-turned-construction mogul who decides to launch Xanadu, a decadent, post-modern futuristic nightclub which fused 1980s rock with 1940s swing jazz music.
The deliciously over-produced film gave us a vision of the 1980s from the vantage of the 1970s as a sexual, liberated time where people valued creativity and passion over money and responisbiloity. Boy were they off the mark!
Despite dealing a fatal blow to Olivia Newton-John’s film carreer, she married dancer/choreographer Matt Lattanzi who played a young Gene Kelly in the film (they divorced a decade later). Everyone was busy hooking up during the making of that movie!
The movie even inspired me to create my own medley for one of our past live shows.

Since the early days of film, making and watching movies has been a very gay pastime. Check out this early “Kinestoscope” movie of two men dancing made by William Dickson at Thomas Edison’s “Black Maria” experimental film studio. I’m not sure if the two guys were Thomas Edison’s hunky assistants or just some gay guys they found hanging out down the street. Read more about Dickson’s famous film of two men dancing to the violin and the controversy surrounding it here.
Or how about the “physique” video of bodybuilder Eugen Sandow? Someone had a gay aesthetic back then. Making and enjoying movies has always run deep in the gay psyche.
So today we’re getting an education, as the wise and witty Peaches Christ, San Francisco’s most famous drag queen movie buff joins us to share with us her list of movies every gay man must see.
Now this is very much an incomplete list which mostly centers around strong, villainous female characters in film that strike a chord with those who are a little “ting a ling.” We’re hoping to have Peaches on as a regular guest to share with us some of her insight and wisdom to what makes these movies so great and endearing to us.
Peaches every summer showcases movies like this in her wildly popular Midnight Mass events where every Saturday at midnight Peaches and her motley crew perform short bizzare performances before screening a camp classic to a sold out enthusiastic crowds. It’s quite a sight to see.
So why don’t you join us as Peaches X, Marc Felion and me Fausto Fernós dish the dirt on some of the campiest, most insane movies featuring women on the verge of insanity.
Featured here is child actress Patty McCormack as Rhoda in the 1956 film “The Bad Seed.” We’re not sure why the studio thought it would be a good idea to put Patty in some twisted doll make-up to promote the film, but we sure love it!
What do evil children, messy divas and betrayed lovers all have in common? Has John Water’s reached his high point with Female Trouble or is the best yet to come? Why do gay men just love those evil bytches?
