Dr. Maxwell Anderson, one of the individuals featured in the award winning documentary ‘Southern Comfort’ passed away this afternoon. He was 53.
Dr. Anderson was a compassionate therapist serving a diverse community. His work touched the lives of his patients and their families, and his utilization of self-determination methods helped soften, in some small way, the pathology culture some transgender and queer people experience from the medical profession.
Dr. Anderson will be missed by many. I am incredibly sad, although I never knew him, I’ve seen what good, compassionate and understanding therapists can do for people. He was a rare breed, and I’m glad he got to share some of his life with the rest of us.
