Batwoman – (Kate Kane) a Lipstick Lesbian Superhero

Batwoman: Is a fictional character and female counterpart to the superhero Batman.  Batwoman made her first comic book appearance in Detective Comics #233 (1956). Originally named Kathy Kane, the character was introduced as a love interest for Batman to disprove allegations of homosexuality  in response to the backlash from the book Seduction of the Innocent (1954).

The modern Batwoman (2006) is written as being of  Jewish  descent and as a lipstick lesbian in an effort by DC editorial staff to diversify its publications and better connect to modern day readership. Batwoman’s sexual orientation has been both criticized and praised by the general public and the character has been described as the highest profile gay character to appear in stories produced by DC Comics.

Lol, i never realised this before but i guess that makes Batwoman Batman’s beard. :p

A while ago i heard whispers of a gay comic book series starting. I don’t remember what’s it’s called (or if it’s true) but the lead character was either gay, or transexual.

I think that it is great to have gay, straight, bi, trans, etc superheroes. A proper reflection of today’s society. And if Batman and Robin do turn out to be gay lovers all the more power too them : )
