What a pity, Youtube deleted the Video. But I found it again on myvideo. :-)

He is really drunk. Maybe rock stars should be a little drunk while they are on stage but David Hasselhoff is clearly an alcoholic. I don't know if I should laugh or be sad about this. This man is throwing his life away.

He is still kind of popular in Germany because his TV show "Knight Rider" was a huge success in Germany. As a kid I also often watched "Knight Rider" with my friends. :-)

And then in 1989, while he was still popular and famous due to "Knight Rider" he appeared at the right time (fall of the Berlin wall) at the right place (In Berlin, in front of the wall) with the right song called "I was looking for freedom". Of course the song was a hit, for weeks it was the chart's number one. Another reason for the song's success might be the similarity to the German music genre "Schlager". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schlager#Germany_and_Austria)

But nowadays his music is not popular anymore, except maybe for the song "I was looking for freedom". Though Germans still like him and before Youtube deleted the video there were many comments in German who actually defended David Hasselhoff. I think the ambivalent feelings of Germans towards him are well described with some irony in the article "David Hasselhoff- Another German national trauma" which you can find under "related posts".
